hey crafty ladies

help me out...

I want to do something for Tyler's first birthday that I think is the coolest, have a canvas for each of the kids attending (7) and tape the first letter of their name on the canvas, have them paint over it and then peel away for their masterpiece :) I'm going to set this up in the backyard, but I'm wondering what the best solution is for propping them up.

Anyone have an idea on how to make an easel that will keep the canvas from going all over the place when the kids mush the paint everywhere, but still low enough to the ground that everyone can reach it?

  • Only thing that comes to mind right now would be to tap some long nails into the frames of each canvas and then press the nails down into the lawn. Will hold them in place I would think. Let me think on it though and see what else I can come up with.

  • If you want them at an angle I would just get boxes and put heavy items inside them to reduce them being so easily moved. You can then prop the canvases against the boxes and to keep them from moving side to side just cut out little divots in the boxes that the canvas frames would fit into.

that sounds difficult. I would probably just let them paint on the ground with it. You could try the dollar store plate stand, but I think they might tip over if the kids started painting on it.

    something like this:
