3rd Trimester

Constipation & Pregnancy?

Anyone have suggestions with what helped them with constipation-the 3rd trimester has been killing me with being backed up. 
Sorry if TMI but I constantly feel like I have to go but nothing comes out. I have tried stool softeners, prune juice, prunes, applesauce/apples basically increasing my fiber in anyway. My Dr told me to use MIralax (I got the Off brand) so I am giving that a try tomorrow, but I am nervous to use it, but anything is better than feeling like this!

  • Coffee keeps me moving. No reason to be nervous about miralax it's pretty gentle, I think. No shame in an enema if things get really bad

  • I take the combo stool softener + vegetable laxative (docusate sodium + sennosides). I buy the cheap generic from Walmart, but it's also available as Peri-Colace or Senokot-S. I take two every morning with breakfast and have ever since 17w. Same with my first pregnancy. Nothing else works for me.

  • I've had hemmheroids (sp?) for like 5 months, what feels like my whole pregnancy, it was the first side effect I got and to the point where they were bleeding, but internal. I have been using Colace up to 3x a day my OB said was fine, plus additional water. But she also had to prescribe me a hydrocortisone tube I have to *inject*, which I hate, but I think that helps me the most. 

    I have also had coffee help me earlier on in my pregnancy but it *had* to be maxwell house dark roast and only that particular one lol. Oh and Cheerios helped sometimes in the past too! :)

  • Oatmeal, exercise, tons of water. Also at this point in my PG for some reason all I want to eat are fruits and veggies so that helps too.

     

  • Lots of water and colace 2x per day since 12 weeks has been working for me...

  • Colace, lots fruit, and coffee is my go-to. I've been pretty miserable these last few weeks as well. Good luck!

  • Pretty much what the pp's have said. Fiber and water are huge in helping ease constipation. I pretty much quadrupled my fiber intake and it has been a life saver!
  • After baby, I do sit ups. Not that many, not to exercise, just to get things moving. But right now, (7mo preggy) I try to walk a lot. Once I realized those two things helped as much as they did, I started doing them both regularly and soon I was regular again. :)
