I'm not really passing judgment, I just wanted to know what others might think about this situation.
I work in an office of 8. About half of us are only in the office sporadically, so there is usually a max of about 6 people on any given day, with the same 4 people generally in the office during normal business hours M-F. One of these 4 has a gluten allergy that she discovered fairly recently, and is still adjusting to the changes in diet.
Each person normally eats lunch independently, but we occasionally will all order in together. The other day, two people in the office brought in a pizza to share. It was not gluten-free. I felt really bad for the girl with the gluten allergy, because she has mentioned to me before how she misses things like pizza, as gluten-free pizza is really expensive and hard to come by.
I don't think they were necessarily wrong, and I wouldn't dream of trying to police what others eat for lunch, but I don't think I would personally feel comfortable bringing in a giant pizza for "everyone" knowing one person would be left out.
WDWMT?

Re: WDYT? Sort of WM related
If they just happened to show up with it, I feel less bad. i'd assume she already knew what she was doing for lunch.
If they had mentioned lunch ahead of time and then showed up w/ pizza - I'd feel a little worse. however, I'd also say that when they said they were bringing in lunch, she should speak up and either bow out or say "can you pick me up ___?".
DS has celiac and it's one of those things where we're teachng him that he needs to be prepared. There are going to be many situaitons where he won't be able to eat the food being offered. Or he'll only be able to eat some of it. I'm teaching him that he needs to be o.k. with this. "It is what it is".
BUT. I so, so, so appreciate it when people think about him and have food for him. And because of him, I tend to be more aware of other people's food issues and try to accommodate as best I can.
Would it be NICE for them to think of her and try to accommodate her? Absolutely. Should they therefore never get anything again that she might not be able to eat? No.
We always choose places with a gluten-free menu when we do Lunch & Learns or something like that, and occasionally we'll all order Jimmy Johns, and she'll get an unwich. This situation, as far as I am aware, was just 2 of the employees grabbing a pizza together. It wasn't like a planned thing involving the whole office. So, like I said, I don't think they were in the wrong or anything. I do appreciate the input, though.
