Preemies

pPROM at 32 weeks

Hello!!  I wanted to introduce myself b/c it looks like we are headed for a preemie.  My water broke around 9:45 Wednesday night.  DH and I came to L&D and they have put me on bed rest for the time being. I'm still pregnant, so that's good news! I got my first steroid dose that night around midnight and got my second one last night around the same time.  MFM did a BPP on her yesterday she passed with flying colors except she has "no measurable fluid."  I always thought no fluid=delivery, but I'm learning a lot.

The plan right now is to leave me pregnant unless I go into labor, she can no longer tolerate the lack of fluid or infection shows up. The goal is to get to 34 weeks (one week from Sunday).  They will deliver at 34 weeks no matter what.

I'm in good hands here and the hospital has a Level 3 NICU.  I know every baby is different and I'm hopeful she'll have minimal complications.  I'm going to try everything in my power to breastfeed her, but I'm nervous about it.

I have looked through the blog and it was really helpful.  I have two little boys at home that I'm missing SO much.  It's the hardest part of this I think. :(

Welcome, but I'm sorry you have to join us! Our MFM's goal was to get DD to 34 weeks, but she was born at 31 weeks 3 days. 34 weekers tend to do really well. I think the neonatologist who came to speak to us when I was put on bed rest is that 34 weeks is when they're usually breathing on their own, which is why that's often a delivery goal. I hope you're able to go to 34, but if not, your baby girl will be so well taken care of in the level III NICU. Wishing you the best!

  • Welcome! I posted on your other thread, too, but it sounds like you are in good hands and you doing well so far, considering. Best of luck to keep the baby in until 34 weeks!

  • Thank you!! I'm supposed to receive a NICU consult today and I will definitely be asking about their LC and meeting her.

DS1 came at 36 weeks (pprom again). He was only 4lbs 9oz and spent 4 days in the NICU. I had a lot of trouble getting support from the LC's. I probably didn't fight hard enough. I will be much more persistent this time though and make sure we get the help we need.

  • Oh and just because there's no fluid now doesn't mean there won't be I'm a day or too, babies keep making more as does the placenta but I'm sure they told you that :)

  • DS1 was a 34 weeker.  He did great only a week in the NICU. The LC who worked with me was great.  It was difficult nursing at first but got him latched and gave me tips on how to work with the NICU nurses in regards to bfing.

  • Welcome! I'm sorry you have to hop over here too, but as others have said it's likely your LO will have hopefully a very short and uneventful NICU stay. My LO was born at just over 34 weeks and we were there for 8 days until he learned how to eat, just to give you some idea  =)
  • Welcome! As far as preemies go, you're in a great place- but hopefully you can keep baby cooking until 34w!

  • Welcome! It's awesome that you've been able to stay pregnant even a couple of extra days! My water broke with DS at 32w3d. Even though he had plenty of fluid, they were unable to stop labor and he came within hours. I hope that things stay nice and calm and you can make it one more week! If not, baby is at a good gestational age.

  • @ziggy903 so far so good!  I'm 33 weeks today and she's still tolerating everything pretty well.  Hopefully we can make it another week.  Bed rest sucks but I know it could be so much worse.
