January 2013 Moms

Talking

I know our LOs all develop at their own pace, but I feel like DD isn't really talking. She says mama, pup, up. She can identify things when asked (where's daddy?) and if asked to put on her shoes, she runs to the door to find them.

Anyone else have a LO who is only saying a few things/babbling at this point?
Our little Samosa arrives in January!

Re: Talking

  • Our girls are right at the milestones you've described. They get mega evaluated every 6 months bc they were preemies, and at our last visit a month ago, they did not express any concern about where they were verbally (and these guys push for the earliest of interventions). I'd chat it with your pedi, but my guess is they won't be concerned yet. More concerned if skills are regressing. If you're continuing to see progress, albeit slow, I wouldn't worry. :)

  • Same here. DD understands a lot but isn't verbal. Everything is da. She can say mama and started making the na na and wa wa sound, but no words. She is working really hard on walking right now.

  • Same here.  I was worried-ish, too, until daycare, without me asking, said that DD has really great communication skills.  It's not all in words yet, I guess, but everything else (pointing, making sounds, using her signs and gestures, animal sounds, etc.).  I get confused because I hear references to "talking" and she's definitely not really talking.  But she does communicate!

  • Norah only says Dadda or Dah for everything else but like your LO, she understands a lot. She even uses some signs like 'more' and 'milk'. Our Pedi didn't seem concerned. He said around the 18 month mark is when language really takes off. I think it'll just come all at once for her but if she is not saying more by her 18 month apt I'm talking to the dr about it again for sure.
