June 2013 Moms

s/o what you grew up playing

Did you play anything (alone or with a sibling) that you made up or is a special memory for you?

I have one brother, three years younger and my mom worked nights.  When she was napping in the evening we'd sneak off to my room and make and eat all the Easy Bake Oven creations we could find lol  We also played our own game "Coming Over Here!" which was just us jumping on the bed but jumping so we switched places.  My mom was a stickler for bedtime and we were made to go to bed embarrassingly early so in the summer we'd sit near our respective windows and talk to each other, usually bitching about it still being light out lol

  • Loading the player...
  • My little brother had one of those rugs that have a town on them.  I think they still sell them.  Anyway, we would play with his Hotwheels and put my Polly Pockets in them.  This was back when Polly Pocket was very small and bent in the center.

The rest of our "games" while mom and dad while mom and dad were gone were a little dangerous.

  • Oh, and when we would go to my grandparents, we would play Tombstone, my cousin, brother, and me.  I was always the bad guy, but not because I wanted to be.  My cousin always made me that.

  • We would pretend to be spies and spy on our parents. We found our old reconn notes, mom is still sitting.., watching tv, boring.

  • We also pretended we were DJs on a radio station and recorded ourselves on tape, producing our own radio show. It was complete with top 20 countdowns and commercials that we made up. It was hard work recording our favorite songs on one cassette and then recording it onto the other radio show cassette! I'd die if I found those.
THIS! Word for word.  This is why I ended up going into radio! I loved it so much!

  • We liked to play the lava game where you can't touch the floor, and with my cousins we would pretend to be animals and someone would be the owner and we would run away if we weren't treated right. Kinda like Elmira from Animaniacs!

  • My brother is three years younger than me.  During/after the '96 Olympics, we played "gymnastics" all the time.  The top of the couch in our play room was made to be just like a balance beam and we did our floor routines.  We'd flip over the side of the couch for the vault.  And had nothing for bars.  We still talk about it every summer Olympics.  We also played "lake" on these couches and would pretend they were our boats.  We did follow the leader on our bikes a lot.  Such fun memories!

  • My mom worked nights so when we didn't have school or were sick (once we were old enough to be trusted not to set the house on fire or whatever) we were left to chill for a few hours while she slept.  We watched all the daytime tv lol  Price is Right, Divorce Court, Supermarket Sweep - you name it :)
