Rollercoaster Ride: UPDATE (long)

I feel completely wrung out right now!  This morning, I had some bright red bleeding, followed by quite a bit of dark brown, stuff for lack of a better word.  I freaked out and called my doctor's office in tears (I haven't had any bleeding since I went on the crinone gel).  After a lot of phone tag, I ended up going into the ER since my cramps were also getting worse.  Hours later, I got to see my baby's heartrate-133, and the baby is measuring 6w4d give or take half a week per the ultrasound.  I know I am 7 weeks exactly since I was temping/charting.

The doctor did say that my pelvic exam was abnormal, that I had a very irritated cervix that didn't look completely normal, and that I was having discharge that he had never seen before in pregnancy.  He wants me to call the doctor first thing in the morning to get in as soon as possible.  Long story short:  I had mostly good news today, but also a little bit worrying news, so some T&Ps would be appreciated.  Also, for anyone who has been on the crinone gel before, have you ever had any abnormal cervical exams?  I know that nobody else's situation affects my own, but I haven't heard of this happening before and am wondering if it could be caused by the gel.

Edit:  for spelling.

Thoughts and prayers to you as well. I was on Crinone for a bit and then switched to the suppositories due to the cost. However, in a previous pregnancy I did experience red spotting and I believe it was from the applicators but it never involved clotting. It was very scary. Sometimes the applicators have sharp edges which can cut you a bit. I used to use a clean finger to dull the edges a bit and then apply it with some preseed so it goes in a bit easier. I am not sure if that is what you are experiencing or not as I didn't have an abnormal exam. Thinking positive thoughts for you.

  • T & Ps to you! I had some spotting as you described around five weeks pregnant. When I went to the ER they gave me very low hopes but said to call the doctor in the morning. When I went to the doctor everything tuned out to be fine. My advise to you is try not to worry till you see your doctor (almost impossible I know). The ER doctors know a little bit about everything, but are not experts with pregnancy. Also, seeing a heartbeat was a great sign! According to the American Pregnancy Association (2014) a heart beat means you have a 78% chance of a normal pregnancy. Your body is strong and made to handle the ups and downs of pregnancy! Believe in yourself and stay positive. :) I wish you the best of luck tomorrow!

  • Thinking of you!! I hope that you get answers today when meeting with your doctor. I did have brown spotting at the end of week 6, but no cramping, went to the doc and she said with my previous loss at 5 weeks that she would prefer to put my on progesterone suppos, so I have been on them since and have not had any spotting, only the funky off white of the remains of the suppos. coming out the next day.  Seeing a heartbeat is a great sign.  Thoughts and prayers to you.
  • Fingers crossed for you!!! Sending you all kinds of thoughts and prayers!!! Keep us posted!
  • It kind of sounds like an infection to me or maybe just a bad reaction to the gel, but I'm no expert. Whatever it is, you saw the HB which means your chances of mc are low. FX for you!

  • Thank you everyone!  I talked to my OB's office today.  The doctor that I will be seeing reviewed the notes from the ER doctor, and doesn't think that I need to come in early-I have an appointment to see her in 2 weeks.  She thinks that the cervical changes and discharge are all related to the crinone gel, but wants me to keep taking it.

My regular doctor's office called this morning to make an appointment for next Wednesday since I was in the ER, but then canceled on me when they found out that I won't be seeing her for OB.  I've never actually met this doctor since the doctor I was seeing in that office left the practice recently-so this is just the doctor I plan on seeing.

I'm relieved that the OB seems to think that everything is okay enough to wait, but at the same time, I'm kind of frustrated/nervous since the ER doctor kept saying how my pelvic exam was abnormal and he wanted me to get seen by the OB ASAP.  I relayed this to the lady I talked to at the OB's office, but she just reiterated that the doctor thought it was related to the crinone.  The doctor in ER said that he does a lot of these exams, and that he's never seen what he saw on my pelvic exam, but maybe he's just never had someone on crinone?  That's what I'm hoping anyway.  It's going to be a long couple of weeks.  Ugh.  Thank you to all you ladies again for all the crossed fingers, thoughts, and prayers.  You are all wonderful!!

  • Glad you got some answers!

If you really do feel uncomfortable waiting I would push for an appointment earlier.

This exactly. Hopefully it's just a reaction to the gel.

  • Push for an appointment if you are that nervous.. I know it can be a scary time.

If it makes you feel any better, ER docs have to tell you to see your regular doctor ASAP, no matter what you are there for. Happy baby thoughts coming your way!
