Nap all day?

My LO is 8 weeks and for the last few weeks pretty much sleeps all day long. She wakes up to eat every 3 hrs but then is pretty much right back to sleep...if I try to play with her or engage, she gets fussy right away. I'll usually give her the pacifier and rock her and she's out again. She does wake about about 6-8:30 and then is super fussy again and will go down for the night (wakes once at 3am to feed).

I read the sleeping schedule email from Lucies List and realized that my LO does not have very much awake time. Anyone else?

Re: Nap all day?

  • My LO didn't sleep all day, but I do know what around 8 weeks is when there is a leap in the Wonder Weeks. I would check out the website and see what you think. You could call your doctor and see what they think too.

  • At 8 weeks LO didn't do much besides eat and sleep...his awake time was minimal and he didn't "play" much at all...I think it was shortly after that 8 week mark that he 1. Began sleeping through the night and 2. Spending wayyyy more time being awake during the day. Now at 13 weeks, he naps for about 30-45 mins four times per day...he does the eat, play, nap thing. The kick n play piano really helped for play time because LO loves it and will play for 30 mins!

  • My LO was the same way at 8 weeks....hes almost 11 weeks and is just now starting to be more awake during the day. I used to try and keep him awake but it just made him a miserable baby....I just let him do his thing.
  • Thank you! I feel better knowing she's not the only sleepy baby!

  • Occasionally, we'll have a day like that. As long as it doesn't happen too many days in a row, I figure he just needs the sleep.
  • My DD1 slept for the first 3 months of her life. The only time she was awake was when she was eating. As long as your Dr is fine with it, enjoy!
  • That may have sounded callous, but wasn't meant to be. Just encouraging.
