City Versa vs. City Mini GT

I'm trying to decide which stroller to get next for my almost 8 month old daughter.  I currently have the snap and go base for the Graco Snugride 35.  Does anyone have the City Versa?  How do you like it?  I was originally looking at the City Mini GT and then someone told me about the Versa and how it has a larger basket and you can face the baby towards you.  How does that work?  Is it awkward for pushing it?  Does the canopy still work if you do it parent facing?  Are the wheels as good as the Mini?  Is it better to have 3 or 4 wheels?  Thanks!

Re: City Versa vs. City Mini GT

  • Versa with GT wheels. Best of both worlds! I love everything about the versa except the weight, and that isn't even so bad.

  • What do you mean?  Is that a different model or do you have to order the wheels separately?

I have the Versa and sold my City Mini single for it.  I love the reversible seat, large easy accessible basket and the easy flat fold WITH the seat.
You can buy GT wheels for $60 on the BJ website

  • I agree with everyone else, the Versa is completely worth it for the basket and the parent facing option. I love love love mine.

  • Ok y'all are making me wonder... Do your LOs really like facing you? Mine want to see out! Even my 7 wk old doesn't like lying flat in the CM, she wants to be upright enough to see! And yeah... The basket is nice but I feel like my mini basket is all I need with a mommy hook for shopping. I like the lightweight over the bigger basket! But I do wish I had GT wheels.

  • DD is 18 months and will only sit in the stroller for more than 15 min if she can see me or we are jogging. She wants to tell me about everything she sees and talk to me as she rides. She can still see what is going on, just behind and too the side.

She has always liked to look around and see the world, but she likes it better if we are telling her about what she sees.

  • My 20 month old sometimes still prefers to see m, plus the parent facing option allows for the glider board, so my 3 year old can ride and watch her brother.

  • The peek a boo window helps a lot, however isn't the same as baby facing you. The car seat adaptor let LO face me in the beginning, however changes the center of gravity. I have City Mini & City Mini GT - weight is nice however there are some that are lighter. Valco also has some that might have baskets more to your taste (there's an older one still on Amazon & a new set of wheels for their lighter weight one). I decided against the Versa because it was just too heavy. I find City Mini & GT akward to load into my small SUV though (cannot hold LO and load stroller at same time.).

have gotten two or three bags into City Mini stroller & carried baby when we walk to the grocherie store.

  • Are all of the Baby Joggers strollers really worth the extra money?  I thought I was going to get an additional 20% off at BRU but then they updated the exclusions to include Baby Jogger and now I'm debating if it's worth spending that much money on a stroller.

I think to consensus is you get what you pay for with strollers. Sure you can get a less expensive one and it will work, but it may be hard to push, heavier, fewer features, show wear...

It really depends on the person, I use a stroller daily so my cost per use is very low in comparison to other baby gear that is only used for a few months and then a child moves on. My DD will be able to fit in our stroller until 4-5 years old (not that I'll use it everyday at that point) so for me the extra cost up front is worth it. I also tend to make big purchases online due to better prices and free shipping.

YES!  They totally are worth the extra money.  The quality and design is so much better than cheaper strollers.

  • My initial stroller pick was the City Versa - for rear facing purposes.  I'm a FTM, so wanted to be able to keep an eye on my baby during walks or at random errands.  I was behind a girl at the post office once with her baby facing out.  The person in front of her turned around and was interacting with baby, reached down and patted baby... .  That bothered me, so I made a mental note to get a stroller that could face me when needed.

We actually ended up getting City Select.. we'll try for another baby soonish after this one, figured may as well get a double option now.

Some people just don't get it. They'll reach for / try to touch the baby no matter what direction (s)he is facing. I usually kept a light blanket over the carseat/stroller that I could temporarily pull over LOs space, but there is still the occassional person who'd think it was o.k. to lift the blanket and breath their germs all over LO. Mamma facing with the baby carrier reduces it further, but it will still happen.

I personally love the rubber grip on the Baby Jogger handles - to me is better than the foam ones on other brands.

  • More Versa love here. I've only had it a couple months but no complaints. DD loves it too.
