Baby Gear

Looking for strollers and car seats.  There are so many reviews that I have looked though and want to know what you all thought.  Also, any must haves I would be love to hear about.  Trying to get my list together so I can start checking things off of my list.

Re: Baby Gear

  • #1 piece of advice: don't overbuy...you won't need two of everything :)

Look for anything that will simplify your life. The type of stroller and car seats you want will depend a lot on your specific circumstances...where you live, what you'll be doing, etc. I mostly use my DSNG for running errands. It's lightweight and convenient while the kids are still in bucket seats. I also have a Sit N Stand for when they outgrow the DSNG. It's a good stroller, but ideally I'd like to have something less bulky and heavy.

Most MoMs swear by Rock n Plays. They're worth checking out. Other things I've found valuable for my situation are Bumbos, a good nursing pillow, FP travel high chair, Ergo, Moby, and a "Mommy Hook". And a good baby gate. :)

  • First I would look at what you want to spend that will help to narrow it down some. Also if you want a snap n go system. Those only fit specific seats and such. Personally we have the maxi cosi mico seats. Strollers we have a contours optima. So far I love it.

Other things you will want is a good baby carrier ( I love my ergo), rock n plays, a good baby seat ( I have the mamaroo and it's amazing be sure to get the infant insert it makes a big difference), Velcro swaddle blankets, a good diaper bag ( I have patunia pickle bottom boxy abundance it ha a built in changing station and it's a life saver), a pack n play with changing table if you have a multi level house, and Bumbo seats are some of my favorite must haves aside from the essentials. Some items that are marketed towards twins are gimmicky and NOT worth the purchase. They may seem cool in theory but end up being a waste of money.

    Together 6 wonderful years.

  • Thank you, we haven't planned on buying two of everything.  These babies will be 3 and 4 for us so, we know what worked for us in the past.  We were only going to buy two bouncer seats for help with feedings, of course car seats and another crib.  Not sure if we will start them out in the same crib or not yet.  I used an Ergo previously and will be getting a Moby this time.  I guess this time I am just so confused about what would be good for 2 babies if that makes sense.

If you need a good laugh, google the "how to wear twins in a Moby" video.

What type of strollers are you looking at? Jogger? Tandem?

Ha ha, that video was helpful. I just got a moby the other day at a consignment sale and I wasn't sure if it could carry two so that was informative.

  • I really like stroller frames for the first few months. We have a Joovy Twin Roo, but it is only compatible w Chicco, Graco and Peg seats.

Two bouncers for tandem bottle feeding was also necessary. Swings take up too much room, so we don't have any. We have two ergos also. I never did the infant insert, just a rolled up receiving blanket. Look at a k'tan if you're thinking of a moby - I liked it better. Two rock n plays also. They're much more portable for sleeping than lugging around a pnp.

A twin specific nursing pillow. I use the twin Breast friend and almost always tandem them even now at 9+ months.

Two high chairs take up a ton of space. We ditched traditional chairs altogether and use the fisher price space savers strapped to chairs as out every day.

We held off on getting a true double stroller and purchased a BOB when they got old enough to use it. We're runners and use it as our everyday stroller bc that's what fits our lifestyle.

I just bit the bullet and bought a new but 2013 model of the city mini double gt. I was debating between holding out for the consignment sales for a used one or buying a new but out dated model and decided to go the latter route when I found one at albee baby for $389 (black only). This year's model on buy buy baby is almost $200 more. If this stroller is really the work horse everyone says, I thought it'd be worth it to skip another family's wear and tear. Only thing giving me pause was their return policy isn't great (something like 60 days, maybe 30% restocking fee) so I'll have to test it out before the babies come.

  • Thank you everyone great info everyone.  We really wanted to get the BOB jogging stroller for when they get older.  Thought about the Joovy Roo twin stroller but was a little apprehensive about them facing to the side.  I can see how that could be a benefit also.

We did this too! We had it shipped to my parents in Chicago because we're in Toronto and it's even more expensive here for the new model. It's still early for us but we saved $300 doing it this way.
    ****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs

    Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
