S/O: What grinds your toddler's gears?

What gets your kid into tantrum country faster than anything?

DS's is having things taken away. He's okay with things he knows he's not supposed to have (like my phone, or something breakable) and hands those over easily. But new things that he's never seen before? Oh man. He got his thumb stuck in a wooden stationary box this morning and was more pissed about losing the box than the injury to his thumb.

Food that breaks and she can't put it back together (like a banana or a cracker).

Someone being in her space--meaning anyone who might be 5 ft away and eyeing whatever she's playing with.

    Getting dressed.

The radio not magically playing the song she's thinking of whenever we're in the car.
All of these cracked me up, but the first one is really true in our house! He keeps bringing me torn pieces of paper, yelling "Fix it! Fix it!"

Food, shoes, her purse, if I don't get up when she wants me to get her a snack, vitamins, trying to put her hair into a ponytail...

Eta: yes! Banana breaking = the end of the world and makes it no longer edible.

  • When a sibling snatches things away.

For Liam it's in the mornings when I drop them off with my parents and grandpa is not there to take him out of the carseat.

If we put on the wrong shoes/hats/shirt.

If we dare change their diaper.

If we try to brush their teeth.

If I try to actually read him a book rather than just point to things and say what they are.

It's the opposite in our house. DH can point out colors of things and what the people are wearing in a book, and DS loves it. If I attempt to do the same thing, or anything besides read the book PERFECTLY from beginning to end, he flips out and makes me start over.

  • Trying to do her hair or brush her teeth. If I take too long to prepare her snack or food she will also get super angry.

  • She gets mad when people she doesn't know well try to pick her up and/or hug her. She is very particular on who she gives affection to.

  • If we won't let her go outside or take her outside, or won't go downstairs, or if I try to take away her food even when she's 'aw du' or all done. And trying to open a door she wants shut even though she was whining for it to be open, or shutting a door she wants to go through and shut herself in, causing the whining to open it and tantrum because we did.
