Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Interaction with baby

My LO is 3 months and I am really struggling with how much interaction time he needs since he is staying awake alot more now during the day! I can't stand leaving him alone when he is awake, even if he is content playing on the play mat or with his toes! Anyone else feel this way? I can't get anything done because I feel so bad walking away from him if he is awake. How much interaction time is healthy enough to leave them be for a while?

Re: Interaction with baby

  • I move the bouncy chair and playmat around the house with me. LO will often play happily while I get something done. I will sing to him or explain what I'm doing.

  • I tried but he likes to move wayyy to much. The nanny has named him "Mr. Wiggles". lol I move the swing around with me too. It just breaks my heart when I turn around and he is staring at me!!!
  • I agree with PP plus has he gets older it will encourage him to play on his own and not constantly need you for entertainment, at this age everything is new and interesting so they are learning even if you not right beside them, plus it helps them learn that you may leave but you always come back (trust)

Have you thought about a jumperoo or exersaucer? Your LO is about at the age where he might really enjoy it. I SAH with our 4-month old and in the last few weeks, I've noticed he was much more alert & engaged during his waking hours, and was no longer content to just lie in his PNP staring at the ceiling fan or grabbing his feet:) We got the Fisher Price "Rainforest" Jumperoo and our little guy LOVES it, and it easily buys me 20 min or so every couple hours. He seems to love being able to "stand" and is getting good at the jumping, even after just a few days. Bonus...it wears him out and he's ready for naps.

Same here! We have the same jumper and LO loves it! The toys and lights plus he enjoys bouncing. Great investment.
