Success after IF

Just thinking about you, what are your maternity leave plans?!?

And are you/did you transition E to a big girl bed? Or are you keeping her in a crib until after baby is born?

Inquiring minds want to know ;)

Re: *****TJ1979*****

  • I will be taking the full 12 weeks off that I am allowed.  Part of it will only be half pay since I don't have enough vacation time stored up.  But that's better than no pay!  What about you?

We are keeping E in a crib for now.  Or possibly until she's 18.  I am so not ready for her to be able to get out of bed on her own.  Luckily she hasn't started trying to climb out at all (knock on wood) and she likes her bed quite a bit.  It is a convertible crib though, so we can turn it into a little toddler bed with rails and a day bed in the next few years as she gets bigger.  Although I still think we should keep her in the crib (with a baby monitor) till she moves out.  Yours is in a big bed right?  How is it?

I have no clue what we are going to do about the nanny while I'm on leave.  It will be weird to have a nanny at my house watching one of my kids while I'm taking care of the newborn.  But we just hired her, I can't ask her to take a break for 12 weeks, haha.

Are you nervous about the new baby?  E was such a terrible newborn.  I'm so scared that this one will be hard too.  But then part of me is also really excited to try again and hopefully do a better job this time since I know somewhat what I'm doing.

  • So will you have any time off before your due date? Or are you trying to work up to the date?

I'm taking a little over 4 weeks before and a little over 3 months after. Since I'm on my feet all day on the job sometimes 12hrs plus it's nice to have that month off before. We are actually allowed to take up to 6 months off which includes FMLA/baby bonding/ and unpaid time. The physicians I work with would die if I took that much time off so I'm compromising.

Things at our house have been hectic. Up until about two weeks ago we had my cousin and brother in law living with us. We are in a state of transition painting rooms and trying to get new carpet before we set up DS's new big boy room. So no, DS is not in a big boy bed yet but it's in the works hopefully soon. I think he'll do well but the thought of him getting out of bed wandering the house in the middle of the night freaks me out.

As for the nanny thing, it might actually be nice once things settle down to have someone entertain E.. Maybe you can ask her to take off for the first two weeks baby is born just to have family time.

Surprisingly, im not nervous about the baby but more nervous about DS's reaction to it all. I guess I feel so much more prepared after going through it once, but then again DS was a good baby for the most part.
