Pregnant after IF

Cold or pregnancy nasal congestion?

Anyone else having nasal congestion issues?  I am 7w5d and I can't breathe out of my nose.  The bump has one of the symtoms on 9 weeks as nasal congestion due to hormones but I'm not sure if I am at that point yet.  Its causing issues when I try to sleep so I am even more exhausted then I'm used to.

Re: Cold or pregnancy nasal congestion?

  • Yes! I hate this symptom. I fortunately don't get this during the day, but it starts every night after I get up during the night to pee. Then I can't sleep well because of it for the rest of the night. I don't know of anything that helps. I tried a humidifier but I swear it made it worse.

  • Yes, I had that bad in first tri and the first part of 2nd. I used breath right strips, vicks vapo rub under my nose, and also used the vicks inhaler with menthol rings. I also squeezed saline spray in my nose. Between all of this, I was able to survive, but it sucked! Good luck!

  • I had it too in the first tri, but that was also when I had my colds, so I don't really truly know what the cause was. Nasal strips seemed to really work for me and I tried the humidifier also but didn't work for me either.

  • I still wake up with congestion, it was horrible in first tri but it isn't that bad now just annoying. I put Vicks vapor rub on the soles of my feet and then put socks on before bed and it was like a miracle!
  • I had no idea this was a pregnancy symptom, but that explains my "cold" that seems to come and go! Crazy bodies.

  • Neti Pot time!

My nasal congestion has been persistent the entire pregnancy. I used a crane humidifier, nasal strips, Vicks, saline spray, Neti pot, etc.

If it continues into your second or third trimesters, you can ask your doctor about allergy meds. She told me it can bring the swelling from congestion down.

  • I had and still have that lovely little symptom, and it's only gotten worse the further along I've gotten.  It's also become more and more bloody - eeewww! lol  I actually developed a sinus infection from it a couple weeks ago and needed antibiotics.  I'm allowed to take the regular Zyrtec, NOT Zyrtec D, and it's been helping with sleeping.  I take it right before bed because it does make me drowsy.  You should also sleep with a humidifier like literally in your face if you don't already.  I'm not sure if Zyrtec is safe during first tri, but I've been taking it almost every night before bed the past couple weeks and I can definitely tell the difference between days that I take it and days that I don't, it helps.  Maybe ask your MW/OB if this is an option.  You def don't want to develop a sinus infection, that was misery for me.  I also agree on the Saline Spray to help keep things cleaned out, but it won't really help with congestion.

  • This has just gotten worse for me.  At this point I can't breathe out of my nose.  I have tried everything, sleeping elevated, warm and cool mist humidifier, really steamy showers, vicks vapo rub under my nose, simply saline in my nose, breathe right strips on my nose.  I am starting to lose my mind (since I am not sleeping cause I can't breathe).  The nurse gave me an approved list of drugs and Benadryl is on there but I'm nervous to take it.  I dont want to do anything to hurt the babies development but I am so so so miserable.  I am having no relief.  It is the same morning, noon, and night.
