Another Diva Cup Thread

I've been considering buying a Diva Cup, and I know several of you ladies are in love with it. I'm normally a pads person and only wear tampons for things like exercise and swimming. Since giving birth, sex still hurts where I was stitched and the idea of trying to use a tampon terrifies me. I'm definitely going to go the cloth pads route because I'm sick of the waste from regular pads and panty liners.

I thought I had more time since I EBF, but AF made her grand reappearance last night.

So for those who have BTDT: Would a Diva Cup be worth it for someone like me? How does it compare to wearing a tampon?

There's quite a learning curve.  There's no denying that a cup is bigger than a tampon, and it definitely takes some stretching to get things comfortable.  So if you already have issues with soreness and sex, a cup might not be right for you at the moment.

That being said, I'd highly recommend doing some stretching yourself.  I had a lot of pain during sex (and still struggle with it at times when it's been a while since DH and I last had sex) where I tore during delivery.  The only thing I've found that really makes a difference is regular stretching.  I try to remember to do it in the shower - and I only stretch for a minute, but it makes a world of difference.  If you do this, after a while, I think that you'll find sex less painful, and then maybe consider a cup.

ETA: Diva cup is also one of the more stiff options - there are some much softer cups that will be easier to insert/take out.  I've heard that the LadyCup brand is generally a bit "squishier" than some of the other brands (though I have no personal experience with the brand).

  • Thanks so much! This is a huge help. I'll hold off on getting a cup for now. The pain is my main worry.
TMI: With sex, the pain isn't so much going in as it is coming back out, although that is getting better.

I will try stretching and maybe look into one of the softer cups down the road. I can do natural childbirth, but apparently my period is just too much Haha
  • I just started using my diva cup. I like it, but am definitely still figuring it out. I agree with pp's that it is kind of stiff. If tampons would be too much, I think the diva cup probably would be too. I second talking to your ob and/or doing some stretching though.

Those of you that have tried multiple brands if cups, which do you think is best?
