Are you allowed to have sips of water? I wake up with a dry throat throughout the night and drink about 1/2 cup water total. Is it strictly no fluids including water?
I would think you'd be okay. I had a c-section (planned because breech but I went into labor naturally), and I had eaten dinner about 6 hours before and had water through the night like you mentioned, and I was fine. I think ideal is your stomach is empty, so maybe just try to limit the amount. The flip side is if you are dehydrated it can be a real bitch to get an IV in and they HAVE to do that before your section.
Are you sure about those instructions? Mine said no eating, but there were limited things I could drink up until 2 hours before the Csection, and water was definitely on the list.
I'm curious about this too. I always wake up thirsty. Not taking at least a sip of water will be hard for me!
My first csection was not planned though... went in for monitoring and they told me I was going to be having my twins that day (via csection). So, I DID eat/drink, but they waited about 5-6 hours before doing the csection. It wasn't a complete emergency which is why they waited.
I was told no eating or drinking anything after 11, even water. That said, when I checked in at the hospital they did give me ice chips to chew on. They said it wasn't considered drinking.
No eating/drinking for 8 hrs prior. But I woke up with a head cold and called my Ob. She approved me to take sudafed and drink a full bottle of water at 6 hrs prior.
Mine was planned for a MOnday but we still had an unexpected twist. On Sunday morning as we were chowing down a bacon and pancake breakfast my doc called and said he had had an accident and he himself just came out of surgery. They didn't know a replacement for him yet, so if I wanted to make sure not to miss my spot, I could come in that Sunday afternoon and they would deliver then (i guess they did have a stand in for Sunday). Needless to say I didn't skip any meals the night before OR on the morning of. And i was totally fine. We got the call around 9am and my cs was at 2:30pm.
I think you will be fine. I had my son at 38+1, unplanned. I had eaten breakfast, lunch and drank tons of water all day. He was delivered at 10:22pm. They gave me a nasty "shot" of medicine to help prevent me from getting sick. It worked.

I had a scheduled c-section at 1:30pm. I couldn't eat or drink anything from midnight on. After the surgery I was dying of thirst, they gave me ice chips & said munch slowly. I let them melt because I wanted water so bad. I wound up throwing up. I think at like 3am I was finally allowed an ice pop & it was the most amazing thing ever
