So I was reading a post over on Parenting about if you child is learning sight words at three which then turned into a long post about what everyone's kids are learning or not learning, yada,yada.

I am feeling quite proud of Nate. He was way ahead of the typical threes in there! By three he could identify all the letters of the alphabet upper and lower case as well as all the signed letters. He also knew all his colors and shapes by then too.

The Typicals of course kill him on their social, speech and play skills. I'll take what I can get.

So if anybody heard about two weeks ago (I can't remember) my woes over potty training for poop. I am proud of DS.

The ABA therapist had used a card with a cartoon toilet and a bottom on it and she would point to the card to get DS to ask and he would get an m&m for asking to use the potty. If DS peed, he played with the toilet paper roll holder. If DS pooped, he played with a robot Ninja turtle action figure.

There has been a few times DS asked without the card and peed in the toilet! There was one instant that I pointed to the card, he asked and he pooped in the toilet! It is awful close!

Yesterday he pooped in his pants at school. I will have to instruct school staff what we are doing though.

My son is standing up for himself- appropriately. I get really stressed out getting the two of us changed to go into the YMCA pool. We have to use a family changing room and it's all a cacophony of babies, toddlers, parents, and slimy floors. It's gross. DS had to use the bathroom before going into the pool (such a rule abider he wouldn't dream of peeing in the pool). I let him go in himself and he was taking awhile- too long for my liking. I kept banging on the door telling him to hurry up- and he shouted back "For cryin out loud I'm going poop- leave me alone!" I was so taken aback; he sounded like a teenager. And he was right, I needed to chill out! It was a weirdly proud moment.

You should be proud of Nate- he's a bright and capable kid.

I feel like this comes up all the time, and I'm always surprised at how many people are doing flash cards with their toddlers/preschoolers.

DD1 now has a rotation of 4 different pairs of shoes for school! This is a girl who wore nothing but rain boots for the entire year of pre-k.

DS attempted to say his cousins names this week. Because of his limited speech he usually will just say boy or girl when referring to others but the fact that he tried their names made me so proud. He is also enjoying playing with a few if his friends regularly, he is now asking to at everyday!

DD can not only pick out artists on the radio in the first couple notes correctly but she totally nailed that a song was a cover yesterday in a mash up song. "Hey, who sing Mandisa?!" Totally awesome in our strange little world. Oh and last week she was listening to the piano lady at my mom's work/church lunch and went over to play with my mom. She didn't slam impulsively on the keys but actually made a few nice selections on the keys key by key. Maybe a music piece to this one!

What's ridiculous is that I also did pretty well. I took it in the midst of re-doing DH's library and was spending entirely more time in Ikea than his healthy trying to get a complete set of Billy bits and other random crap I couldn't live without.

I scored abysmally

I wouldn't know a death metal band if they came up and bit me in the face. I'm going to send the link to DH. It's just his cup of tea. Thanks for the laugh this morning!

DS has been doing great during his transition to his SN preschool. Seriously the best case scenario I could have imagined.

Tears for just a few mins the first day and little to none since. He doesn't cry when we drive there like with DC. He is jabbering more at home (though not at school...yet). Teacher says he's such a happy little guy, which tells me his personality is coming out there.

As a mom it is nice that his teacher is knowledgeable about autism. For example: She saw his stereotypy and commented on it as such. The teacher at his DC...she thought he was seeing spirits. Really feeling like we made the right choice.

We had our sibling class at the hospital this week. The kid loved it. He carried his swaddled doll all over the postpartum wing and kissed it on the head. Fingers crossed that enthusiasm holds after the baby arrives.

DD1 has her first soccer game of the season last Saturday. She had three assists! After the game, one of the other parents told me, "Wow, Sophie was really on fire today!"

There's one girl who's been on our team since the very first season who is crazy-good (fast and just a natural at the skills) and she's seems to have become a motivator for DD1, who sees how good she is and wants to be that way. And although sometimes she's still frustrated that it doesn't come as easily to her, she's seeing her play improve over time and getting better about appreciating teamwork (even looking to kick the ball to that girl). We've come so far from the pick-grass-and-roll-on-the-field days.

We started using flashcards with DS1 after age 2 when he actually showed an interest in it. He likes them! *shrug*
Why can't I get the cursor to go below the quote-d space? Oh well.

MrsZee -- Don't worry, I wasn't offended! I was just sharing that my child actually likes them. There could be a few others out there who do, too. But I can also imagine that some people might do them not realizing it might not be the best technique.

Auntie -- Yeah, he definitely went through a numbers phase (and letters). But he also seemed to like the verb cards we got. I really needed help with action words -- for me that was harder to do from a book. The cards we got are pretty helpful I think.

I know I was stuck -- I didn't know how to get out. ;-)

I'll get back on topic and write a brag. DS2 is up to 2 bites now (per round) of green bean and mango. It's the first bites of non-pureed vegetable and fruit he's ever had in his life (except banana). He has gotten to where he likes cheese. So far, just Kraft singles at home, but we're on cheddar slices at ABA. We're doing training soon, which I'm very anxious about since he has a long history of getting away with his own food preferences at home.
