Wtf? 3 days. He took his full 3 day "paternity leave" and they're calling him out? That's bull. I like how they said his wife wouldn't need his help during those first days. WRONG. I would have had a mental breakdown if I didn't have my husband around the first week. Seriously... 3 days. Those men are pathetic.
I'm sure those same asshats think that it should be no problem for a woman to return to work after just a few days. I mean, you just push the baby out and then hire a nanny right?
This made me so angry when I read it this morning. He won't always play baseball, but his child will always be part of his life. Kuddos to him for recognizing what is most important.
I commented on this in the Throat Punch thread too, but I'll say it again. Those radio guys are so out of line. One of them said something like "Your wife doesn't need you those first couple of days"...um, I bet most wives (including your own!) would beg to differ. Sure, playing professional sports is going to provide your family with a lot of opportunities, but that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your time with them for one of the most important moments in your life. Get real. Three games in baseball (especially at the beginning of the season) mean absolutely nothing. You still have 150 games to play so shut up about it.

I love that Matt Lauer pointed out that a c-section is major abdominal surgery with risks to the mother and baby. Does that Boomer guy even have a family? His comments were so clueless. The world does not revolve around baseball.
So I get it...Professional Sports Athletes probably do miss out on a shit ton of things in their wives and their children's lives, and they are totally paid for it. But those guys are a bunch of MFDB's to call this guy out. How dare you judge and criticize someone for wanting to be there when their child is born? Sorry that you don't give two shits about your families radio show hosts, but apparently, no amount of money can take away being with his wife and child for the first 3 days of childs life. Kuddos for him!! I'm a Detroit Tiger fan through and through, but I just gained a whole lot more respect for this Mets player!!!

As a Mets fan, I'm totally cool with Daniel being with his family. Honestly, I don't think that our season is going to come down to his missing 3 days. I think it'll come down to our lack of being good at anything...
"I got a couple of text messages about it, so I'm not going to sit here and lie and say I didn't hear about it," Murphy said about the on-air criticism from WFAN Radio of his decision. "But that's the awesome part about being blessed, about being a parent, is you get that choice. My wife and I discussed it, and we felt the best thing for our family was for me to try to stay for an extra day -- that being Wednesday -- due to the fact that she can't travel for two weeks.
"It's going to be tough for her to get up to New York for a month. I can only speak from my experience -- a father seeing his wife -- she was completely finished. I mean, she was done. She had surgery and she was wiped. Having me there helped a lot, and vice versa, to take some of the load off. ... It felt, for us, like the right decision to make."
"We had a really cool occasion yesterday morning, about 3 o'clock. We had our first panic session," Murphy said. "It was dark. She tried to change a diaper -- couldn't do it. I came in. It was just the three of us at 3 o'clock in the morning, all freaking out. He was the only one screaming. I wanted to. I wanted to scream and cry, but I don't think that's publicly acceptable, so I let him do it."
***Heart melts*** He will be a great Dad and husband.
The Mets organization and players were totally 100% cool with him leaving for 3 days to be with his wife. I posted about this on facebook today because it really made me angry. These guys know NOTHING. So ignorant. That guy is going to be a great dad.
Oh, and I wonder what these losers would say about my husband (who makes the primary income) taking a week of his vacation to spend with me and his child after she's born. Jerks.
This pisses me the F off. It's only the first few days of his child's life, not a big deal. His wife only pushed out a baby. Not a big deal. It's so sad that this is where we are today. That people are literally saying that just because he's a baseball player, he should put his job in front of his family. Could she have done everything without him, I'm sure she could have but he he knew that she needed him and he was there. I have a ton of respect for this guy. I'm not even going to comment on the c section thing because that's just ridiculous.
I'm going to give Boomer the benefit of the doubt and assume that he suffered a bunch of concussions during his career that left him slightly brain damaged. And I don't know what Mike Francesca's excuse is. So ridiculous.

BWAhahahahahaha! Im a Mets fan too, have been for years, and was thinking the same thing!
This flat out pissed me off. That ass wipe apologized this morning but you can't take back stupidity once you spew it out. Ugh... I can't even formulate my thoughts on this because it makes me so mad.
