Nursing Positions?

My LO is getting harder to nurse in the cradle hold (which is all we've done since birth- with the very occasional side lying). How are you nursing baby as he/she gets longer? I am finding that NIP is trickier too with the cradle hold without anything to help (pillows, etc) at this point. TIA for suggestions!

  • Loading the player...
  • I also do the cradle hold... DS will still scrunch up his legs when I nurse him so that helps. At home I still use my boppy and out in public I can prop my leg up for him to lay on.

We do football whenever possible. If that doesnt work (and it seldom does for NIP), I kind of sit him on my upper thigh facing me and nurse onthe same side where he is sitting.

Still doing cradle hold here and LO still needs help with her latch so no reading/eating during nursing for me. I cradle hold or use the ergo for NIP, and that's actually gotten easier as her latch has gotten better. She still pulls off and wants to check out the world though. Sometimes I sit LO on my leg and let her nurse sitting up, you could try that?

  • LO one sits up now so I just sit him on my lap and hold onto him and he holds himself at the breast. He is over being covered though so he always smacks my cover down. Someone is going to get a show. He always plays around a lot more now too so it's been an adjustment.

  • I pretty much always nurse side-lying now. We have a sectional couch, so I lie the a pillow next to me with DS and then I lean to the side and nurse. It's so comfortable for both of us.

When I NIP I use the cradel hold but try to have him sit up more so his legs aren't completely unsupported.

  • At home I usually do side-lying.  I also do the lap one...I guess it's like a modified cradle where he rests on my lap.  I had to do cross-cradle at the store the other day.

  • I almost always nurse in the football hold at home and for the first few months I only did that position.

Now I can do cradle and do that in public and occasionally side lying (at home)

This is what I do too. When DS kicks his legs out sometimes I position him so his legs are more diagonal from my body rather than straight across my lap. That way he feels like he can stretch out more. I nurse side lying at night.
