Re: Had our official DE IVF meeting yesterday

  • Congratulations on getting started--August isn't really that far away!

70 shots sounds like a lot, but it's probably an insignificant number when you consider how many shots, blood tests, etc, etc, the average person has over the course of her lifetime (trying to fight math with math, but I don't think it's working...)

What's going on with that emoji thing?  Is it hitting itself in the head with a hammer?  I don't think you can have nurses come and do that...

LOL at the hammer emoji.   It's supposed to be a scared face making a time out gesture, but  I totally can see that.  I'll take a hammer to the head too if it makes August get here sooner.

  • I am glad it went well!  Even after countless medicated cycles and my OEIVF's  I still was overwhelmed with our DEIVF consult.  Just so many things!!!

I gotta admit I am worried about the PIO shots too... I am use to the subcutaneaous (sp?) ones but the intramuscular ones scare the $%^ out of me.  I also don't trust my husband AT all  to give me the shots and I am a control freak so I plan on doing them myself.  I watched some youtube videos on how to do them over the weekend. I am also worried that I gotta go out of the country and take the shots with me ( at about what is hopefully the 8 week mark).  I hear a heating pad is key so I just went out and bought a new one as ours was crap.

  • Congrats on moving forward. August is gonna be here before you know it.

During my 1st IVF I gave myself over 50 shots in two weeks. Will be the same with this protocol. Ugh!!!!!

I was concerned about the PIO and my DH giving them to me as well.  I found it was actually much better than giving myself shots.  He did a great job and I just had to sit back and take it, lol.  My nerves were calmer as I didn't have to be responsible for sticking it in and pushing the plunger.  Also, I didn't have to watch it, I just stared at whatever tv show was going and it really was over very quickly.  Try not to worry ladies, it'll be alright :)

    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April

I'm always confused as to why they need the shots instead of oral or suppositories. But honestly, you'll get used to them after the first couple weeks, I'm sure.

And if you can do TKD, then you can handle a little shot. [;-)]

I think it was a $1000 difference. Don't have papers in front of me so not 100% sure. Maybe different for you?? I start mine before transfer. MH said no :(

I couldn't switch now anyhow because I have them from my cancelled cycle. We can do it!! I think lol

  • My insurance didn't cover the suppositories-- and I worked at a hospital at the time and got all my meds from the hospital pharmacy (i.e. at discounted rates). They were $115-$140 per 10 doses and that was at the discounted rate. No idea how much the shots cost.

  • @JimBobCooter   My insurance won't cover my first round of shots but will when I get pg.  When I was pregnant they did cover my  suppositories.  I hate the suppositories because they irritate your cervix and can cause bleeding.  So while scared of the shots I think they will be better in the end.  No messy stuff and no bleeding.

I am using freedomfertility.com for my meds and you can look at prices on there to kind of get an idea.

  • PIO vs suppositories

It was like $100 OOP for 2 weeks PIO and like $800 OOP for suppositories for us. I also think each RE has their own biases about what works better. Isn't there also something about PIO getting into the bloodstream better so that progesterone level can be measured by blood draw? The higher progesterone level during early pregnancy can be reassuring.
