How does that guy in the red sweatshirt have 4 kids...? His wife is either stupid, or she just doesn't give a shit. These guys are greedy dick holes who are grossly overpaid anyway.
My husband is insisting that he take at least a week away from work to stay home and help, and he said he'll take 2-3 weeks if I have another C-section. I'm so happy to be married to someone who cares more about me and our family than making money. His job will still be there when he goes back.

I'm sure they make wonderful husbands and fathers, and their families are so lucky to have them. They seem so sensitive and understanding, and really care about the magnitude of having a child for the first time.
I saw that too! I can't believe they had issue with the 3 game paternity leave! Hey listen up assholes, 3 days is NOTHING and the dad will still be bringing home millions and be able to send the kid to any college they choose. I hope that baseball player gets a standing ovation from the crowd when he is back from taking care of his wife and new baby.

Wow! I need to go call my husband now and tell him how amazing he is. I knew I was lucky to be married to such a supportive husband but now I am even more grateful.
Assholes! Yeah, because there's no chance he might want to offer his wife emotional support...or snuggle his newborn...nah, just schedule a C section around his work schedule and hire a nurse for her. Babies are a woman's job, men need to concentrate on sports. WTactualF.
Sadly that is how a majority of the sports world is. My husband is a college coach and I have seen plenty of coaches' wives plan c-sections or inductions to avoid games. One woman I know avoided telling her husband about her cancer diagnosis until Saturday's game was over.
We keep hearing how lucky we are that baby is due during spring ball (we have always discussed trying to avoid a delivery in-season) because DH's schedule is a little more flexible than in the fall, but I was definitely on my own the day after bimaxillary jaw surgery (and having my jaw wired shut) when it was during football season and he was at his own spring game the evening of Achilles tendon surgery. It's a different (sad) world.
I'm still picking my jaw up off the floor, so I can't say a whole lot except wow, those two guys are complete asshats. Props to the dad, for being just that - A DAD.
We sat next to Esiason at a Bruins game, and he was there with two of his kids, so you'd think he'd fucking understand what "being a father" means. Apparently not, though. Schedule a c-section? Over 3-out-of-160+ baseball games? Fuck you.
I wanted to throw something at the screen. We're very blessed, DH works in a progressive industry. With DS #1 he got 4 months paid paternity and took every minute of it. It meant that we could keep our preemie home for the first 11 months of his life without a change in our income. This time it's less, but he gets 8 weeks, so with both of our leaves and help from family DS2 will start daycare at 4-5 months old, so thankful! 24 hours- yeah that's bullshit and a recipe for a mom with postpartum depression!

I've been gladly blowing the minds of the other coaches we know with natural birthing, cloth diapering, breast feeding and baby at work with dad info. It seems like the younger guys are WAY more into actual hands on parenting and being physically present than the older generations.
Edited to add: Carton's Wikipedia page suggests he is notorious for controversy (and negative comments about post-partum depression). After watching the video, it looks like Boomer was uncomfortable with the whole thing, based on his body language, so it will be interesting to see what comes of this.
Schedule a major surgery around a game schedule? Who are these women? This is just an insult to the millions of men and women who don't get paid maternity or paternity leave. It's absurd that this conversation would be happening here in the US at all! I don't follow sports so I don't even know who we're even talking about, but he sounds like a stand up husband/father. It doesn't sound like there are very many men in the sports world like him, his wife and child are very lucky.
Holy! I hear of hockey players missing a week or more when their wives have kids. You know what's said to them when they come back? "Congrats man!" Seems like some sport communities look out for their players and some just don't give a shit!
................... I thought the old guy was going to start defending the man on leave but then he went and said he would make his wife get surgery so he could play? Seriously, I am sure he makes enough to miss a week or two of work to spend with his family. What a bunch of ass holes. Props to the guy on leave!
