Sleepy time locations...where does LO snooze?

Ladies- ftm here with a 3.5 week old. I'm trying to figure out the best way to transition my LO to his crib. He currently sleeps im his swing and sometimes car seat but I worry about any long term sleeping in either of those places. He no longer likes to be swaddled an I think feels really small in the big crib. Thoughts?

Re: Sleepy time locations...where does LO snooze?

  • J is 2.5 weeks old and during the day I will put her in her baby jail or crib when she is asleep - if she'll stay asleep. Sometimes I'll let her stay in the swing, the RnP, or my arms. But I *try* to get her used to the crib.

  • Definitely transition with naps first...for your sanity, not for the baby! And just stick with it. If you put him in and he fusses, give him a minute to see if he calms down before picking him back up. He may just need a second to adjust and getting him right away won't give him that time. I'm not saying let him scream and cry but just allow him the chance to settle. Also, if it's working in another location right now, I say go with it! I was so focused on 'routine' and setting habits last time that I added more stress than ever was necessary. They won't go to kindergarten still sleeping in a swing. If he really puts up a fight, I'd back it off and try again in a week or so. You may get a totally different result!
  • DD is 2 1/2 weeks old and still sleeps at night in her swing, but takes her naps in the pack n play bassinet. I'm trying to get her to sleep in the pnp at night... I think we're ready to try it!

  • DD sleeps in her RNP at night that's the only thing she will sleep in at night . We have a bassinet but she's not a fan . During the day she will nap on her swing or the boopy , I try not to hold her to much while she sleeps I don't want her to get used to that . I plan to let her nap in the crib but no night sleeps for a couple more months .

  • I agree with nap transitions!
We are doing two naps in crib right now, and two stretches of sleep in her pnp.
Its a slow process for us.

  • Mostly on my chest or in the RNP. Will stay asleep in the bassinet of the PNP too. Im not ready to think about moving him to his own room/crib yet. I do plan on having him do more stretches in the bassinet soon to get used to sleeping flat.

  • In the bassinet next to me or on a few occasions when he needs it in our bed cosleeping. ( I know tsk tsk we're not supposed to do it)!
  • At night in the RnP (taco bed) and daytime in the swing (but not on)... I'm worried about the transition to a flat bed, we started in the pack n play but she would roll on her side. I'm afraid of that. But in the RnP at night she gets 5-6 hrs... So I'll take that right now!
  • LO will usually nap by me I in her swing during the day and in her bassinet at night. We haven't even thought about transition to her crib yet, that scares the crap out of me for some reason.

LO sleeps in the pnp most of the time.
He will move to the crib in about a month.

With DD and DS1 I would just lay them in the crib awake while I was doing something. (Cleaning, putting laundry away, etc) that way they got used to being in it. 10 minutes, 20 minutes, then I'd lay them in it for an occasional nap. (I started this at about 2 weeks old)

Bed time sleeps started at 6-8 weeks old. We never had a problem with the transition.
  • Ugh this topic stresses me... He sleeps best in the RnP, never longer than 15 min in the PNP bassinet. :-( I'm also terrified of the inevitable transition, and pushing it off too long!

  • My boys have been sleeping in the arms reach co sleeper since their first night home and do great. I have it at a slight incline since we noticed they sleep better slightly inclined. Good luck!

DS sleeps in his cribs for naps (usually at least 2 1-hour stretches) and for the beginning of the night.  We bedshare after his first night wake up.  Usually around 2am.

  • DD is usually in crib for naps and RnP at night. Of course if we are out she just sleeps in her car seat.

  • LO just turned 4 weeks today, and I am not sure we have naps versus night sleeping even distinguished yet! I still think he sleeps best when held, so any time he sleeps in the RnP is a win- much less a crib or bassinet!

  • Ugh...I'm struggling with this. He doesn't like to sleep anywhere except our chests, the swing or the vibrating chair and both of those have to be on which I don't like to do for long periods of time. The minute you put him down in the PNP he fusses until you pick him up. I have gotten an hr out of him during the say but on his stomach. And at night we are still only getting at the most ever 4 hrs at a time but most of the time it's more like 2 or 3 hrs. We are going to start trying crib naps soon and nighttime hopefully in the next couple weeks. All I know is I need a good 5 or 6 hr stretch of sleep! :( I do love his snuggles though!!

  • My little man is 1 week old and we have been trying to get him to sleep in his PnP in a woombie but he is not a fan. It makes me sad to think of not holding him during his naps. I mean can you really start a bad habit this early? FTM here.

This. We snuggle during naps...and I don't feel ready to give that up yet. Is it really that bad?
I personally don't think it's bad at all! I mean our little babies went from being all warm and cozy inside of us 24/7 to being out and open in the outside world. Even if we held them for every nap, that's a drastic decrease from how often we were "holding" them a few weeks ago. IMO I think it would be cruel to make them give it up cold turkey! Plus I love my snuggle time ;)

  • Night time sleep cycles are in the bassinet in our bedroom. My little man has had a couple day naps in his crib, but mostly in the PNP or in my arms.

  • Holland loves our couch! She'll sleep solidly there all night long. I'm too much of a wuss to let her sleep in the pack & play next to my bed. I'd rather her be in bed with me.
