Eczema

Admittedly I have not talked to the pedi yet, but I am pretty sure LO has eczema. I have it but don't do much to treat it since my breakouts are pretty rare, but I know I had it as a baby. Any recommended OTC treatments? I'm hoping when it warms up it will clear. I had a coupon from target for the California Baby brand shampoo or lotion and was going to try it but it's $30! So I was also wondering if that price tag is worth it.

TIA!

Re: Eczema

  • We use Cetaphil soap and lotion, only bathe him every 3 days and we put Aveeno Eczema Therapy or Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream on the areas.

  • Cerave cream is my absolute holy grail. First DS had eczema so bad it would crack, ooze and bleed. We applied the cream (not the lotion, not as good) 3-4x a day when it was bad. Rx hydrocortisone on the bad patches before the cream.

Also daily water only baths per our allergist. Lots of cream after on damp skin. This is the new rec and better than the old rec to bathe infrequently as it helps remove the dead/dry outer layers of skin.

This is interesting! When did you start taking LO to the allergist? Did pedi recommend doing so?

  • @housewifebecomesher‌ - he went around a year old. He has a lot of food allergies too, unfortunately, which was our main reason for going but the eczema management tips were a big help (and then he developed asthma so we manage that with allergist too).

  • I had all of those things at a young age so I'm hoping she doesn't, but, odds are...

  • I always found regular Aveeno to work the best on me because I have super sensitive skin and have had minor eczema outbreaks since childhood. If DS has inherited my skin that will be my first go-to.

  • I would check with your pedi first, this is just a suggestion but my friend is using lavender oil diluted 2:1 with coconut oil at night on her 2 year olds hands. She said she has seen a huge difference in a couple days so she is going to keep using it. I would ask as the fragrance in the oil may be too much for your LO's sensitive skin but it's worth asking about!
