Charlotte?

Would you use Charlie as a nickname?

Re: Charlotte?

  • No, I personally would not, I hate Charlie on a girl and Lottie is so much spunkier.

  • I would, but I like a boy's name used as a NN for a longer, feminine name.

I also like "Char" for Charlotte.

Boy names on girls (even as NNs) don't go over well 'round these parts.

Eh. I just don't care for the sound of it (the NN Charlie) for a girl.

  • I wouldn't, but I sure know plenty of people that do. Half the baby girls I know are Charlotte nn Charlie. Way over done IMO.
  • I am a big fan of boy nns for linger feminine names such as Frankie for Francesca or Alex for Alexandra. But for some reason I don't like Charlie for Charlotte. I'm not sure if it's because the beginning sound is not the same or what. I'm more tempted to call a Charlotte just Char.

  • I don't mind Charlie, but I prefer Char. And Charlotte is such a beautiful name, I probably wouldn't even use a nickname.

No. No Charlie, no Lottie, no nothing. Just Charlotte. It's only two syllables!

    Exactly!

  • I personally think it's cute, I think the show Good Luck Charlie has probably helped make that nickname a little more popular.

  • I'm one of the minority who thinks boy nn's for girl's names are cute (FWIW, DD is Jacqueline and we call her Jac). That said, while Charlie for Charlotte really isn't a combo I would use personally, I do think that it's cute.

  • I like Charlie for a girl as short for Charlotte. But I also like Mike short for Michala Jo for Josephine etc. Guess I'm not the majority.

  • I love Charlie as a nickname for Charlotte. If I liked Charlotte as a name I'd consider it just so I could call the kid Charlie.

This!  Not every name needs a nn!

  • Yes, I think Charlie is an adorable nn for a little girl.

  • I do not like it as a nickname I think Charlotte is very pretty, the nn Charlie is not. I don't mind boy nn on girls such as Sam for Samantha and Jo for Josephine, but dislike Charlie for Charlotte.
  • I am in the minority, but I have a Charlotte that we call Charlie about half the time. That said, we use it as a pet name (more akin to Magoo than a Michael going by Mike), and have never/would never introduce her as Charlie.

Never. Charlotte is lovely by itself, and I don't like boys names on girls.
  • I think it's fine.  It's just a nn; she can always discontinue it at some point if she isn't fond of it.  I grew up with a nn that everyone used and in college I just stopped using it.  No one calls me that now.
  • I really don't mind it. I think a boyish NN on a girl can be adorable. Our girl name is Johanna and plan to call her Joey. But, I don't think you should force the NN or that be the sole reasons for naming her Charlotte. It's only cute if it fits.
  • Not a fan of Charlie
Lottie is better - I like how it is slightly oldfashioned as well

Most of the Charlottes I know are just that or Charl
