NBR: Real Estate Agents

Ladies can you tell me what your agent did for you?

I feel like ours is slacking and doesn't understand what we want at all. He enrolled us for his automatic listing emails. All he houses we have seen we found ourselves and then asked him about. When we ask him to find out about a home for us he does it.. But it takes days and the house is gone by then.

My husband thinks my expectations are too high but I'm not satisfied with him at all and I imagine it will just get worse. Our house isn't listed even yet. He's a family friend of my husbands which makes my husband bias I think.

I am seriously the worst person to ask about this because I did everything (and I mean everything) shy of setting up the viewings when we bought our house.  Our agent sucked balls.  We faced so many issues with work not getting done, occupancy permits not being available and I spent hours on the phone persuading, cursing, you name it, to get this house.  He was all "Yeah, that's an issue" and then do shit about it.  Thinking about it makes my blood boil lol

  • We basically went to houses with our agent and he would call the number on the sign.  If the house had a key locked to it they would give us the combo and we would go in.  We also broke into some houses through back doors and sliding doors with a construction worker friend.

  • Sounds like a typical real estate agent to me. Ours would just set up appointments. We got so frustrated that we would find a house we liked and contact the listing agent to set up an appointment with them and they served as the listing and selling agent

  • We are selling, and I'm not really happy with the agent either. My agent uses this outside calling service to set up viewings. we get the call, and then call the service back and then the service calls the realtor. Wouldn't it just be easier for the Realtor to call us personally and cut out the middle man? I mean I haven't spoken to her since I listed it. She also wanted to show it with 10 minutes notice the other day. I realize that it was the person who wanted to see it that asked for it to be so quickly, but we have a baby and he was sleeping. We need a little more notice than that.
  • Okay. Perhaps my husband is right. It sounds pretty typical to not like your agent lol.
  • Sounds like a typical real estate agent. I think it's a joke that here they get minimum 6.5% to sell your house. We put our's on the market a few years ago and she did nothing. We will never sign a 6 month contract with an agent again if we decide to relist (we never sold it because apparently agents were calling her to make an appointment to see the house and she wouldn't get back to them). Before we decided to build our existing house we did look at pre existing houses. That agent did next to nothing as well. He had us receive emails with listings but that was it. We perused the internet and if we found something we liked we would call him.

  • Your realtor is definitely slacking. I'd ditch him and get a new one. It seems like the younger they are, the more quicker they are. Our realtor send me emails daily, and we're scheduling whatever hits the market within 24 hours. It's really the only way you can compete in this market. You need to get in, see the house, and make a quick move. GL!

  • My realtor definately isn't young. Pushing 50-60 probably. Good point about age though.
  • I mean, my realtor isn't "young" but she's younger- probably in early 40's. I've dealt with quite a few realtors, and I feel like the younger ones know more about how the market is. Older realtor's are still in the mind set of how it use to be 10+ years ago- they don't necessarily know that this market is different.

  • My husband recently got started in real estate and I can tell you that's not how he runs his business! He's constantly in contact with his buyers, preparing comparison charts, scoping out new listings for his prospective buyers. Also, he generally hears right back from agents when inquiring about seeing a home. Several days isn't typical, in the Pittsburgh area anyways! Hope you have better luck soon!
  • Maybe @ChelsRy1‌ can weigh in. If I remember correctly, she is a realtor...

Anyways, for us our realtor took our budget and family needs/wants into consideration and then booked a bunch of viewings for a day that worked for us.  The first time we bought she lined up several showings every few days, or whenever something new came up.  I probably saw 40 different places (only took Tyson to the best ones).  This time we really knew which place we wanted, but she wanted to make sure it was the right one for us so she found several similar places for us to look at and compare.
