(Unplanned!) HELLP Syndrome

I developed HELLP Syndrome at 34 weeks. Scariest thing to ever happen! (Here is my story: https://harleighlove.wordpress.com/2013/05/13/hellp-syndrome/). My daughter was obviously a preemie as I had to have an emergency c-section. She was 4lb 4oz but she is almost 11lbs now (at 3.5 months). Any HELLP Syndrome stories? Were you able to have more children?

I just posted on the high risk board about this. I had an emergency c-section at 36 weeks last July with my DD due to HELLP syndrome. DH and I are ready to start to TTC #2 and I have an appointment with my midwife next month for a pre-conception discussion. I might call and have him refer me to the MFM specialist too, to see what info I need to know before having a second child. I wasn't told that it was out of the question, so I'm definitely going to have a second. (We want 4, but we'll see how the 2nd one goes on my body before making any more plans!) At least this time around I'll know what to look for. I'm thinking about asking for a blood test weekly starting in the 3rd trimester.

HELLP Syndrome sucks, doesn't it?  I'm so sorry that you developed HELLP, but I'm glad that you sought medical attention when you did.  Thank goodness for happy outcomes.

We have chosen to be one and done, but the HELLP diagnosis was only part of the reason.  I know a few women who developed HELLP and went on to have another child.  I would certainly talk with your OB.

if you are interested (and have a bit of time), this is my birth story.  It is really, really long.  I wrote it out more for myself, to remember details--those that I remember, anyway.  https://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/25433505.aspx

I was officially diagnosed Pre-Eclampia and also with Cholistatis - but managed to be delivered at 35.5 weeks. Scariest thing in the world, we have not decided if we are going to try for another one or not yet...

So sorry you had to go through all of this, it is so scary to especially have to do done parts alone. You're a trooper! Best wishes for you and your little one!

I had it with my daughter and didn't know it until I was 40 weeks and water broke. I had no symptoms which scared me with my son. I think my liver function was down in the low teens. My MW watched my levels close with my second and induced me 2 weeks early. I'm due with my 3rd in 3 weeks and everything looks great.

I can relate to your birth story, thanks for sharing!  I went in for a routine OB appointment, had high BP (and other symptoms, now that I look back on it) and after evaluation was diagnosed with HEELP.  We were luckily able to wait two days to administer steroids for baby's lungs, and then have a scheduled C-Section, so my case might not have been quite as severe, but still really serious, which I learned after researching it afterwards as well. Little one was born 34 weeks 6 days, weighing 4 lbs. 3 oz. Mag Sulfate was one of the worst parts of the whole experience, and not being able to go see my baby in the NICU until the next day, when I wasn't hooked up to the IV!  had to stay in the hospital for 9 days all together, while they tried to get my BP under control after baby was born.  Still on BP meds now, but a much lower dose, and the little guy is doing well after a 3 week stay in the NICU.  Sorry you had this experience, but sounds like you and your little one are doing well now!

I was induced with my 1st preg at 36 wks d/t preeclampsia and developed HELLP syndrome the next night 21 hrs after delivery. It was scary and I thought i was dying I ended up on a mag drip for 2 additional days 3 days total and went home on a cpl BP meds that I ended up taking for 3 wks after delivery. 2nd preg had some high BP was off work at 31 wks to take it easy but delivery was fine and no mag drip! I am happy to say I am 21 wks preg with baby #3 and have my fingers crossed for a healthy delivery and baby.
