Longer version-
After my 40 week checkup and my constant increase of blood pressure. The dr ordered my induction. I went home, finished packing my bags, had the husband come home from work then he and I went and got my "last meal" and checked into the hospital at about 10 am.
They didn't get me started on pit until noon. Upping my dose every 30 minutes. By 6:30 I was only a 2 but my Dr thought breaking my water would get me to progress. It barely did! It just made my contractions hurt worse. I started begging for something to take the pain away. I got Fentanol (sp?) every hour from 7:30 to 12:30 then at 1:30 I got the epidural. That helped enough that I slept! With the Fentanol I could sleep, but would wake up with each contraction. Post epidural, I passed out for a couple of hours until about 6:30 when my contractions started hurting enough that I couldn't relax between them. At 7:30 I got a booster of the epidural drugs. After that I felt AWESOME! I got super chatty and told everyone that I was a 10! I was complete!
I started to push at about 9. And delivered at 11:30. My Dr did perform an episiotomy once her heart rate dropped. (In baby's defense, she had been stuck in a birth canal for the last two hours!) he apparently snipped to the side, so I avoided a vag-anus!
We did skin to skin for about an hour and then let my husband hold her. He was SUCH an amazing support my entire labor. He got food poisoning on Monday and still stuck it all out. Including cutting the cord. He's absolutely smitten with Holland. Which makes me love him even more!
All things seemed well! I felt good! They brought me lunch! I ate about half of it and rested up. At about 3:30 or 4, I called my nurse and asked for assistance to go to the bathroom. They sat me up, and while trying to get steady I got nauseous, and then I said "I can't hear you guys. My ears are ringing. I don't feel good." After which they laid me back down and realized they had removed all the monitoring machines from my room. They inserted a catheter & emptied my bladder, then started rubbing my uterus down. The post partum nurse says to the other "she had some big clots earlier" to which the L&D nurse started pummeling my uterus and popped out 2 large clots (somewhere bigger than a baseball and smaller than a softball) she then sent the PP nurse to go get the doctor.
All of a sudden I was hooked up to oxygen, my head was inverted and my BP cuff got put back on. Luckily my hemlock had fallen out so I got to have another IV put in in a rush! Apparently my BP had fallen to 55/31. So once I started getting color back in my face, got fluids flowing into me, and my lips were no longer blue. They also gave me a shot in my thigh to help with my blood clotting and they said "watch out for the diarrhea" and they were NOT kidding!
So they ask me if anything else is wrong. Well...I had a line across my
Ribs that hurt when I took deep breaths. So my doctor ordered a CT scan. In order to get the CT done correctly, they had to put in ANOTHER IV in my elbow pit. The nurse tried both arms before deciding on one. By the time they wheeled me down to Radiology and had me hooked up in the machine the tech noticed that it wasn't in all the way. So they had a nurse from the ER come down to adjust the heplock. She said it was good, so they tried doing the test & shooting the dye into my vein. Apparently the IV was not in my vein & all the dye just shot into my arm and it is now swollen SOLID. They then called my OB nurse down to put in ANOTHER IV. When all was said & done we got back to our room at about 9. I was VERY thankful to have family & friends visiting so they could watch Holland while my husband and I were off getting poked & prodded with IV needles.
Long story short: My baby is perfectly healthy, and I think she's going to be a champion nurser. I had a couple of rough patches yesterday, but I'm looking forward to recovering today and just enjoying my pretty girl!
