shoes for the fat-footed

We have Keds and Carters, and we can't get them on...there is even a lot of room at the toe on the Carters--probably they are a size too large, but still won't go on.  M seems to have a high arch like I do and also perhaps some fat on her feet.  Ideas?

We are the only ones who wear socks to babytime or the park, and at the park it is super dumb because her socks are covered in mud.  We must find shoes!

Re: shoes for the fat-footed

  • clarks are pretty wide, randomly!
  • Loading the player...
  • We will pull the trigger on some Stride Rights if that what it takes.  I'll probably just order some although it would be better to go to the store--the store is not very close and she is hard to wrangle in stores these days.  The problem is not one of width but of height...  I can't buckle the Keds.
  • DS has the same issue - high arches and wide feet. I ended up getting him some shoes from Target that I think are a bit too big lengthwise and the velcro doesn't come fully flush. He's not walking yet, but he seems to manage standing and cruising in those ok.

  • Yeah, I say suck it up and do Stride Rite. Join their rewards group and get deals. They have outlets as well - I know there's one near me.

I spend a lot on shoes for myself so I guess I don't see it as a big deal! :P

  • In the future, watch Stride Rite for end of season sales and try to buy ahead.  We used to have an outlet 35 minutes from here and I would rarely pay more than $20 for my kids shoes.  The outlet is now gone and I'm totally lost on good, affordable shoes.  Luckily we bought a ton of shoes when we found out it was going out so we have a few to choose from in the closet.

  • Not the best looking shoes but the Stride Rite Hook and loop in xw fit the fat feet well. I had DD#1 in them for 3 shoe sizes until her foot started to slim down.

  • I bought DD a pair of Nike runners for like $22 and they fit her chunky feet perfectly;)
  • I also say stride rite. I know target brand runs wide if you are looking for a less expensive alternative. If you want cute shoes, the boutique squeaky shoes run really wide and would accommodate her tall foot. I just got the girls Sun San sandals for spring. They have buckles at the toe and ankle so you can adjust for fit.
  • We love our stride rites.  I get them on kijiji for cheap though

  • I took E to stride rite yesterday to get sized and they didn't have anything that would fit his short wide foot. He is running all over the place and really needs good shoes, but she said he needed to grow another whole size before we had any options.
  • Pediped, has worked well for my semi fat footed kid. Plus, they are very cute. Negative, they are very easy to take off.

  • We have stride rite as well in the extra wide (not just the wide but EXTRA!). No other show has worked for him.

  • We live in Robeez.  The thin leather soles are just enough to keep their feet protected from sharp things but completely flexible to let them grip the ground.
