Does your school allow home baked goods in class?

Re: Home Baked Goods in school?

  • As a teacher, I can bring in supplies to cook with my class but they cannot bring home made food to share with the class.

  • I teach at a Catholic school, and baked goods are permitted.

  • I voted SS because its written that we aren't supposed to in the school I teach in but people do. It's only really enforced in classrooms where kids have allergies.

It's written that we can't for DS's home care but everyone does there too.

Our preschool says no bit they don't enforce. The school is "nut free" and they do enforce that. Though thankfully my dd does not have a nut allergy. (I voted yes)

Eta: I always bring the recipe or ingredient list when I make homemade stuff and I always do healthy ish snacks.
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

  • DD1's school only allows food for three parties/year and nothing homemade. Birthdays have to be non-food treats. I like that they don't have food treats for birthdays because junk food overload. DD1 has a severe peanut/tree nut allergy, and her school's policies work well for us.
  • I voted no but I was thinking about DD1's daycare/school. Where I teach you can bring in stuff :)

    DD2 - Charlotte Avery - 1/27/14

  • DSs current school allows it as long as no allergies in the class. Our previous daycares have all been store bought only b/c of allergies and needing to see each ingredient.

  • @RosiePeare - That's definitely something to think about if there are kids with severe allergies in your school. My DD has contact reactions to trace amounts of peanut residue. It sucks.
  • This is interesting...I teach elementary and we don't have a restriction against homemade goodies. This makes me sad because I see such cute birthday cupcakes so I hope we never get rid of this.

Agreed. DS is the same way. Something to think about!

Also, a PP commented about always bringing in the recipe or ingredient list with baked goods, but that does not always help. DS is severely allergic to peanuts. Chocolate chip cookies would not have peanuts on the ingredient list, but there are chocolate chips that he cannot have and in fact has had a reaction to chocolate chips that have been made in a factory that processes peanuts.
