Anyone considering having their tubes tied with a c/s?

I am reading that some doctors will tie your tubes during a c/s and now I am considering that. If I don't have a c/s i won't have them tied but it seems convenient?

Re: Anyone considering having their tubes tied with a c/s?

  • My OB actually asked me at my last visit if I was considering having a third child. I was like, "Uh, let me get through this pregnancy first!" His reasoning was that sometimes he will be taking a woman in for a c-section and she will mention having her tubes tied "while he's in there." He just wants to avoid those spur of the moment decisions, as well as be able to prep for the additional procedure if needed.

  • I am not ready for that yet. However, my aunt had it done after her second and said her recovery was a lot worse that time. My sister had her tubes tied years later (no cs involved) and was out of commission for about a week or so

  • Gah, not sure I need that :( maybe the husband will just have to get snipped as was the original plan :)

I am on my 3rd c-section and the paperwork has already been done for a tubal ligation. However since it's not 100% accuracy for BC my DH is also getting snipped as a vasectomy is also not 100%. We are condom haters! Lol. 3 DDs and now a DS we are done. Sign, sealed, waiting on being delivered! I have no regrets for this. I mentioned it at my first prenatal appt. I mean she's going to be in there and it only adds on a few extra mins for surgery and the pain level should be no different.
Also we are getting a discount for multiple surgeries (c-section, tubal, & vasectomy)
  • If I end up having a c-section, I think I definitely want a tubal. 3 boys and we are DONE!!! I will likely make DH get snipped too, just to be safe. Just want to talk to my dr about the pros and cons before I commit 100%

  • Im having a full blown hysterectomy after we have our third. This is our first. I have a long history of Uterine Cancer and Ovarian Cancer in my family that I just want it ALL taken out when we're done having kids.
  • I am having mine done after my c/s this time. It was decided upon that if I had a c/s this time, I would 'get fixed'. We also made a deal that if I didn't have a c/s that DH would 'get fixed'. Long story short my last birth ended in an emergency c/s and it's a 50/50 chance of the same problem, so I talked to my doc about a c/s this time. She said it was up to me but she asks every time I am in there if I am still set on having my tubes tied. I am not changing my mind.

  • We talked seriously about it while PG with DS2 only to find out that the Catholic hospital where we deliver does not perform tubals. Good thing, too, since I was surprisingly thrilled to end up pregnant again! If I can't convince DH to get a V after this baby is born, I suppose I'll eventually do my OB's in-office tubal. Our fertility is terrifying, tbh.
  • I'll be having a repeat c-section and plan to get my tubes tied.  I asked my doctor last time and she said as long as I was sure and knew it was permanent, it was easy to add on to the c-section, and I could decide as late as the day of the c/s, they didn't really need to know in advance.

This is my first but 99% sure it's our last. I asked my doctor about doing the tubal litigation during a c-section (assuming I have one) and he said to wait. There's an in office procedure they can do now so that's likely what I'll do. For more info: https://www.essure.com
I think waiting is definitely a good idea if it's only your first!  I have several friends who have been 99-100% sure that they only wanted one kid.. and then a year or two later changed their minds.  At least wait a year to seal the deal and then do the office procedure! :)

  • This will be my 4th child and I will be having her vaginally
  • Think we want three. So maybe next time.

Good for you. Why did you even open/respond to this thread?
She's obviously easily confused. According to her posts, she's due on both June 10th and July 30th.
  • I'm strongly considering it if I have to have a c-section with these twins.  We had only planned on two kids, so we are already getting our bonus baby.  Three boys is enough for me!  If I don't have to have a c-section, DH will be getting his snipped.

I agree I was 100% sure I wanted 0. Than 1000% sure I was one and done. Now I'm pretty sure im done. I considered getting my tubes tied since I'm a repeat c/s but its so final so I decided to wait.

I'd rather my husband get a vasectomy, even if I do have a c/s.

Me too. I know he is bit going for that nite so another reason to wait.

  • This may be UO, but even though I 95% think this will be our last baby, I wouldn't do any form of permanent birth control. I'm 30... I may have 15 years of fertility left, and a lot can happen and change in life. I would just be too scared to regret that kind of decision down the road. Same goes for DH.. I wouldn't want him to get a vasectomy probably ever.

This is pretty much me, only I am 34 and will consider a vasectomy for my DH much further down the road. I am pretty sure this will be our last, but I am afraid to make that kind of permanent commitment. Heck, I am too afraid to get a tattoo because of it's permanence, so having our fertility complete is just too big for me. We have talked about DH getting a vasectomy when this baby is 5, when I am 40 and DH is 45, because we feel we'll be 100% sure by then and also reaching the end of our fertility road anyway, but nothing is decided yet.

  • I am not considering having my tubes tied just because we aren't sure if we are done with this one. We have already agreed that DH would get a vasectomy when we are done having kids whenever that may be. If we are on our third and I were having another c section, I would consider it.

  • I made the decision for a permanent BC even though I'm 28 when DS gets here only because he will be our 4th kid and it's my 3rd c-section. I have had people try to talk me out of it because I am so young but financially 4 kids is more than enough and c-sections only get more and more dangerous after #3. Plus with my medical history it's safer for me. I've had a few ladies on here telling me to wait but if you knew everything, you would have told me to quit 2 babies ago. It's sad and it kind of makes me feel less of a woman but my DH is so supportive. A tubal is not 100% so like I had mentioned my DH is also getting snipped also not 100%. He said he doesn't need anymore kids either. He said he's also doing it to show support. What a dork and I love him!
  • So I signed my paperwork to have a tubal ligation done during my c-section after baby number 3 and turning 30 , I was so for it but now am having second thoughts any advice
  • 5 Children and 1 Loss later = cut, burnt, tied and daring husband to come near me. [-(

  • I'm having mine done and I'm 26. DH and I agreed that 2 babies is our limit. We have 'our pair' (boy and girl) as everyone says. My doc asks me a every appt. She asked for sure at my last appt, so she could get my RCS on the schedule and have my tubal scheduled at the same time. She did say I have up until the time I go into surgery to change me mind.

  • I want to but my husband said no.  He only wants one, I only want one...but his reasoning is what if we lose our sanity and want a second.  My response is adopt.
