Hi, I,m 39 and was previously treated for graves disease with radiation therapy. I am considered high rik due to my AMA and thyroid condition. I found out that my thyroid antibodies can cross the placenta and could possibly attack the babies thyroid, causing a goiter,Inge and several other things. I am 30 wks now. They have been doing growth ultrasounds every 4 wks to monitor baby, but I am now wondering if I should deliver at a hospital that has a level 3 nice, incase there is a problem? Anyone out there with a similar situation? I am a RN, so my husband saya I am overreacting
Thanks
Re: Thyroid concerns
Have you had your TSI(the graves antibodies) checked this pregnancy? From what I've read and been told, the TSI would have to be really high for there to even be a slight possibility of the baby suffering from transient hyperthyroid.
As for the nicu, that's really up to you and what you would feel comfortable with. I'm a FTM and not sure how all this works, IF there were a problem and baby needed to go to nicu could he/she be transferred to one?
I 100% know how stressful it is to think about, I stressed over it for months until I had my TSI tested at the beginning of the 3rd tri(it came back normal range) and then had my ultrasound which showed no goiter in baby. Just take a deep breath and know that baby is likely going to be just fine.
