Summer's coming! Outdoor toys?

What is everyone doing for outdoor toys now that summer is coming (for those in warm climates, I'm jealous). I want to buy all the things, but I am looking at getting a baby swing, a sandbox, a baby pool, and maybe a walker (only to use in our front yard, which is flat, and under constant supervision - please no flames) or something to use outside. We live in the middle of nowhere, so no parks nearby, and my sister is watching LO at our house this summer, so I want some fun things for them to do outside. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Re: Summer's coming! Outdoor toys?

  • I can't wrap my head around this winter ever ending so I have not even considered this!  I know that I won't be getting a sandbox yet though.  I don't foresee the hands in the mouth thing ending anytime soon and I don't want to deal with that.  We have access to a pool but if we didn't I would get a baby pool for sure.

  • I was thinking about a baby pool, too. I was thinking maybe getting one of those inflatable ones that would go up to my waist so we can have it for a while. Obviously we would get a float or something for her... I'm gonna follow this thread!

  • We are getting a baby swing, the turtle sandbox (my mom is giving it to me-it was my brothers), and a baby pool.  We will probably get a little slide as well.  Obviously he won't go down it by himself, but he enjoys when I slide him down the slide at our local park.

  • @Snowboarderbritt - oooh, now I'm going to add a propped umbrella to my list for the beach! Great idea, thanks!

  • My parents bought him a baby swing Saturday. I'm excited! We will probably also get a baby pool. We live in the middle of a park so we have 1947302 toys out there for everyone to use.

I want to get her a baby pool ... My SIL is moving into her own house , so I'm not sure if she will be leaving the swing behind. I also want some toys for her to play in the sand ... I am having DH build her a sandbox.

  • I am getting a baby pool. Ill take a blanket or the pnp outside with some of her usual toys. Maybe some balls for the baby pool when it doesn't have water in it. I would love to have a baby swing, but no idea where we would put it.....

  • I second the baby swing, baby pool, and umbrella.  I am going to have to buy a nice new large picnic blanket to put down on the lawn too.  I haven't decided about the sandbox.  Seems like she's a little young for that still.

  • I haven't thought much about this yet! Our entire yard (front and back) is xeroscaped with a tiny tiny flat back porch. So -- until he's walking solidly and not at risk of twisting little ankles on the rocks, I'm not sure how much playing he'll be able to do outside at home.

Any suggestions from other desert dwellers?

  • I am getting a baby pool. I also ordered a small slide and a climber, although DS will probably still be too young to use them this summer, but I have young nephews.

I am thinking we will probably lay a big blanket in the grass for him and give him some random toys to play with.

  • I have a postage stamp of a yard so we wont do too much for outside stuff, but we have a great park across the street.  My parents got the kids a great wagon that has two seats, one for a toddler and one for an infant-I think we will use that a lot.

  • Deft getting a swing to hang from the tree out back, LO absolutely loved swinging at the park.

Our friends had a pool built and put in an extra large baja shelf in anticipation of LO coming over a lot.
  • We have a baby swing that my boyfriend attached to the front porch that he loves & I may get a baby pool. We have a huge yard but lots of red ants (fire ants) so we have to be careful.
