Has anyone had/got this, just I'm a bit worried because I no it can mean my baby could have complications, how eva most of the time it's nothing to worried about?

Re: 2 vessel umbilical cord?

  • I have this currently.  The high risk board has a post with some info:  https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12245954/two-vessel-cord#latest

Basically my tests showed low risk for everything else, but I'm having some growth ultrasounds to make sure that baby is on track and getting enough nutrients.  Good luck to you and your baby!

  • I payed for a private scan & he picked this up & I told my doc today, I had a growth scan today and everything looked fine (had to have one because I convived with clomid) and I seen the doc after so he didn't no till after the scan and he's booked me in for another in 2 weeks time, thank you for replay and good luck to you as well :) xxx
  • My baby has a two vessel cord!! My quad screen came back negative and I had an ultrasound with Maternal Fetal Medicine to make sure that the heart and kidneys look OK. Although a two vessel cord is somewhat rare, I have taken care of many babies (I am a RN) that have two vessel cords.

Keep your head up! Most babies with two vessel cords are just fine!
  • I also have a 2 vessel cord. It was isolated and the only thing they found was her right kidney never ascended, so she has it in the front of her pelvis. Which shouldn't be any concern.

Our little girl was due 5/3 and my water broke Monday morning- so she arrived 4/1/14 and fooled us all. We had a healthy delivery and she weighed 5lbs 8 oz- no growth issues! We are both doing great and she will get an ultrasound for her kidneys next week.

    Best of luck ladies!
  • I also have a two vessel cord.  Like PP's have said, for me it doesn't seem to be affecting anything.  LO is measuring right on track and has been this entire pregnancy.  They did take an extra close look at her heart and other organs at our A/S but everything came back normal.  The only difference is that I have weekly ultrasounds now to make sure she is still getting everything she needs.  If you're concerned, you should absolutely talk to your doctor.  Best of luck!

  • Thank you girls, I'm going to call my doc tomrrow. I don't want to wait 2 weeks to see him again, I haven't had any other scans to check her heart or kidneys which by the sounds of it most people do! X
