BellyButton Clothing Question

So I have that pregnant "Not an innie, not a legit outie" belly button going on. It's starting to poke out through tighter tops. Question- is it tacky or bad for it to be seen at work or for a nice occasion, like a baby shower? If you decide to hide it, besides wearing looser clothes, how do you? Thoughts? Comments??!

  • Its part of pregnancy so flaunt. I think its adorable...unlike my tacky belly ring that I finally took out.

  • I think this is such a silly question, no offense... it'd be like someone who was born with an outie trying to cover it up. Just because it happened due to your pregnancy doesn't mean you should hide it! If you're uncomfortable with it, then by all means, hide it if you want. But if you're worried about what other people think about it, then I wouldn't worry about it.
  • At first it bothered me, but it didn't stop me from wearing fitted clothing and showing off my bump. Now I could care less. Don't like it? Don't look is what I say. :). Flaunt it momma!!

  • One of the experiences of being pregnant is that you are much more on display than usual. It's kind of weird getting used to the general public knowing you had sex, you're having a baby in the near future, they can see growing breasts and belly, etc. I can understand discomfort about feeling this way, but I don't think it really matters or is negative in any way. Now that I'm a bit more used to the attention I don't feel so self-conscious, so I wouldn't worry about concealing anything. But each to her own!

  • LOL! I started off with an innie-outie (and a flat-enough tummy that my belly button was visible under a fitted T.) I am now almost always full outie and because of the way the scar tissue is on my belly button it's lopsided if you see me without a top. Not only that, but it is outie enough that you can see it through a shirt, sweater, and sometimes even my coat.

If someone makes you feel less professional or well put-together because they can see your belly button (not that you're wearing a sheer shirt) please throat punch them from me.

  • The reason that I ask is because I'm still semi-new at a large company, and my boss is also fairly new is his position. This is his first time dealing with an employee going on maternity leave, and he is making sure that he is complying with HR's policies 100% (It make seem like overkill, but I do really appreciate it!) It's important to me to make sure that I am also acting professionally. (Then it just got me thinking about other situations!)

  • If it bothers you I know people who put a bandaid over their belly button for bigger events such as weddings/showers, but at work I'd say it's fine as long as u are comfortable.
  • Rest assured that your new boss won't say anything about your belly button.  That could be interpreted as sexual harassment or even causing a hostile work environment due to your medical condition.  The last thing a new boss wants is an HR issue.

  • Who gives a crap if your belly button is poking through seriously you are pregnant wear what you want LOL :-)
  • I never thought about this until a coworker mentioned she didn't like seeing pregnant women's belly buttons through their shirts, and that she thinks it's tacky/gross. Now I am so much more self conscious about it, but I' haven't let it stop me from wearing what I want and I haven't been really trying to cover it up.

  • Mine isn't anywhere near sticking out, but I have been putting my belly button ring in and out just to make sure the hole doesn't close, and when I do have it in it kinda looks like an outtie of sorts.  That said, seriously who the f cares if you can see your belly button through your shirt, it happens to most pregnant women.  I like when pregnant women wear more form fitting clothes to show off the bump, it's much more flattering than frumpy stuff, and given that, you're more than likely going to see the outtie.  Rock it!

  • Mine isn't close to sticking out either. I have a cavern like deep belly button so it is still indented and sometimes makes my belly look a bit funny. But.....guess who doesn't give two fucks!

    This prego right here :)

  • Hugh? I think the visibly popped belly buttons are super cute. I don't have one, but I'd rock it if I did.

An outtie is part of the whole process!! But if u need to cover it, I heard a bandaid works wonders!

  • Mine is visible - oh well!!  Kinda sad though as I never popped an outie in my 1st pregnancy.  This time it didn't even bother trying to stay an innie ;)
  • I get some weird combo, like a volcano, it's an outie around the edges but still an innie at the very center. I am showing it off today on a T-shirt material dress :)

  • I have an outie to begin with. So now I have a super outie. Think like a cabbage patch doll where you have that little button type bellybutton sewn on. Nothing I can do about it. It actually kind of hurts when things brush up against it, so I wear my clothes however is comfy. That's the only thing that counts.
