Messy Ladies Unite!

I've been seeing things on FB and Pinterest about how it's time for Spring Cleaning, but
image

So does anyone have any tips they'd like to share on how they keep their house tidyish? Personally I'm finding it hard to manage to even do basic stuff, never mind deep spring cleaning. But with so many visitors, I'm starting to get embarrassed.

  • Our house is a disaster.  There is so much clutter on the kitchen counter, table, dining room table, basically any open space.  We have clothes stacked up a foot high on top of the dresser, not to mention the pile of socks that need matched.

  • My house is a little bit of a mess. It's fairly clean (thanks to DH), but it is cluttered. I try to go around every night when DH is home and try to tame the beast. There are baby things everywhere, mail everywhere, the Sunday paper is all over, cat toys everywhere. Clearly the answer is move to a bigger house (so we can make a bigger mess).

I think it makes such a difference to wake up to a clean house, so my grown-up goal is to always load the dishwasher at night/tidy the kitchen, and unload the dishes in the morning. It doesn't always get done lately, but I always feel less overwhelmed walking into a tidy kitchen in the morning, even if the rest if the house is messy. I usually make the effort even when I'm exhausted... all.the.time! I'm admittedly a bit of a neat freak. If someone can help me tame the laundry monster, that'd be great. kthanks
I've been doing the dishwasher thing too, and if agree, it helps a LOT. If I don't, the whole system breaks down. My boyfriend is supposed to be doing the unloading in the morning, but that rarelyhappens.

I've been given the monster taming advice of do ONE load a day, every day, and/or do not put a wet load in the dryer until the next is folded! But I always tell myself I'll fold it later, and what we get is this
    image
So now I'm not going to allow myself to watch my pvr'd Nashville unless it's also folding time!

  • DH, bigs, and I do a once over on the house each night before bed.  Everyone grabs their own things and makes sure they are at least back in the room they belong in if not put away.  Like PP, we also load the dishwasher each night and unload in the AM.  I also do one load of laundry a day. It always gets folded, but may not get put up.

MissDemeanor there is a product called Nature's Miracle.  It is the best thing ever for pets.  I'm obsessive about my house smell….we are on the market and I don't want people to even know we have a dog.  I spray any fabric thing (carpets, couch, etc) once a week.  It is an odor neutralizer and added bonus it takes out stains. It works great for kid messes too.  I can't imagine having to take my couch apart…kudos to you!! :)

  • My kitchen and bathrooms I can handle, but everything else...

DH likes to set things down and never pick them up again until I move them,..then he needs it.

Last week we rented our house out that we had on the market. Everything we staged it with is in boxes in our house...and an extra set of washer/dryer (we were going to sell with the house, but the renters have their own) are in our mud room. Its awful, but there is nothing we can do about it until next week Every time LO is content and I reach for a box....bet you can finish the rest.

  • I've tried the one-load-a-day thing, too, and I just can't keep up. WHY IS THERE ALWAYS SO MUCH LAUNDRY
I know why we have so much.  MH wears 2 shirts a day and refuses to wear jeans more than once before washing.

I'm thinking the best thing to do is getting rid of EVERYTHING! From now on we each get 7 shirts, pants, undies, pairs of socks. LO gets 10 sets of Jammie's, 5 outfits, we each get 1 towel, only 1 set f sheets. Less variety, but less laundry ;)

  • We moved into a bigger house in the fall. I thought my clutter problems would be solved. Nope. Bigger house= more crap piles everywhere! My form of cleaning clutter is throwing shit away. Especially if its junky toys or stuff I don't like. "What? You can't find your headless spiderman that stopped shooting webs?? Haven't seen it..." :^o

I have learned to never say that I finally caught up on the laundry because that is when LO will have a massive crap explosion all over himself, me and my bed.

I taught my toddler to clean.

Kidding. Sort of. She does help...she puts away her own toys mostly, and she throws stuff away for me. She also likes to "help" sort laundry. I do at least one load of clothing laundry a day. I'll do a second load of sheets or towels if need be, and I do extra loads on the weekend when DH can help me if I need to play catchup.

DH loads and runs the dishwasher every night, so my new goal is to have it emptied by lunchtime every morning so I can load as we go throughout the day.

As for everything else, it's a disaster. I kind of pick at stuff on the weekends or when the kids are asleep. I haven't swept or mopped in weeks. DH just promised me last night that he'll try to be more helpful when he's home...even just having him amuse both kids would help me. I'm trying to purge a lot of crap right now. Our house is just so small and we have no storage.

I feel like my house has been full of clutter and a mess since I got pregnant with DS1, he's 22 months old. I also seem to never catch up on laundry and I have piles of stuff all over in random places.

Sometimes the clutter/mess just paralyzes me and I don't even know where to begin, so I just tidy it up, make it look acceptable or put things away where I can just close a door and not look at it.

I found this article floating around on FB right before Lent started. It was a 40 bags in 40 days challenge. https://www.whitehouseblackshutters.com/40-bags-in-40-days-2014/

Basically, you just need to fill one trash bag/box a day with stuff to donate or throw out. I decided to do it and its really made me feel less overwhelmed with tackling a cleaning project with a newborn and a toddler.

I don't always get to a bag a day, but I try to make sure I get 7 bags a week even if that means playing catch up on the weekends when DH is home too. I'm amazed with how much I've been able to get done and not stress about the "spring cleaning."
  • I like things to look tidy but tend to be one of the hide-the-huge-piles-of-crap-in-the-closet types. In terms of actual cleanliness, we gave in and hired someone to do the bathroom and kitchen deep cleans every two weeks. I try to keep up with dishes, laundry, vacuuming, etc. but my standards are pretty low!

  • Our maib issue is crap piling up everywhere. Every morning, LO tends to take a long nap, so I try to take advantage. Today, I got 2 loads of laundry done, made a list for tomorrow, did a craft project (which got the bag of supplies off my kitchen counter), cleared about half the dining room table. I still have to do dishes (no dishwasher!) and a little more reorganization. Bathrooms and floors need to be done, and dusting... But not today!

  • My house is a mess. The most I get around to doing is cleaning the kitchen. This needs to be done daily or I lose my mind. Everything else will get done when it gets done.

My solution: hire a cleaning service. This is what I'm asking my boyfriend for Mother's Day, but I'm hoping to get it sooner.

Ooh, a maid for Mother's Day...I may have to ask for that one!
  • @Mevaroo‌ oh no, that was just my living room laundry pile. There is also one in my bedroom, my secret shame in the 'office', and of course a heap in the laundry room.

  • We have a maid do the major cleaning every 2 weeks so we just try to control the chaos in between. I'm like Monica from friends in that I can't sleep until things are picked up. So just before bed, I do a quick pick up downstairs and switch out a load of clothes. I try to fold one load right before bed but sometimes it doesn't happen. We are wrinkled a lot. DH handles the dishes- he loads it and runs the dishwasher at bedtime and he's SUPPOSED to empty it before he goes to work in the mornings. Yeah... Not happening these days. Basically, I just make sure that everything has a "home" and it goes there before bed. If I wake up to a disastrous living room, I'm much grumpier throughout the day.

  • I want to purge clothes but I don't do well with letting go. ...what if I want to wear that hoodie I haven't worn since 9th grade? THEN WHAT DO I DO?
I still have clothes I wore in high school too. Hoarders unite!

Ditto. I just cleaned out some clothes. I don't think super low-rise is ever going to happen again. But it pained me to part with anything. My goal for tomorrow is to go through handbags. Possible ugly cry ahead.

  • I do dishes daily (which helps) and laundry every other day but, DH has to fold his own because he doesn't like the way I fold, and mine gets thrown in a pile in my closet.... Otherwise the house is fairly clean-ish. DH sweeps when he gets home everyday and once a week during LO's longest nap I get the rest of the house picked up as best as possible.

  • One routine I have found that works for me is start a laundry load when I go to bed, rotate it into the dryer after motn diaper change, then fold in the morning. I also fold out of the dryer, it doesn't get put somewhere or it will get put off.

Am I the only one who likes doing laundry? Now putting it away is a different story. I am hoping to organize my closet next week - purge clothes and hope that helps the putting away aspect.
I threw out two shirts this morning because they had holes. How did they make it back into a drawer? Did I just not notice before??

    I <3 laundry.

I seem to be okay on "day to day" things. Laundry and dishes. Anything else? Uhm... No. Not so much.
I haven't used my pump in 6 weeks and all that crap is still sitting on my kitchen table. Pump, pumping bra, parts, breast pads, tiny sterile bottles from the NICU... All on my kitchen table. Under even more crap.

DH actually said to me tonight "remember when we had a table?"
No. I don't remember. There's been crap all on it since we got the thing.</p>

@ziggy903‌ I think we may be the exact same person :)
