MOTN

Pretty disappointed I'm starting this thread tonight since I was hoping for a 6-7 hour stretch, but I'll take 5 hours (8 to 1). DD is sleeping on me now. I'll transfer her back to the RNP soon and try to go back to sleep.

Getting back to sleep after waking up has been hard for me. I try to do my Hypnobirthing relaxation, but get easily distracted. What do you do to help you fall back asleep?

Re: MOTN

  • I have yet to fall asleep tonight. Lo has been asleep since 8:30 and it is now 11. I am just too amped up to sleep I guess.

  • I attempted to swaddle DS with 1 arm out knowing that it would be rough. He made it 2.5 hours igabe him his paci and rocked him to sleep and made it another hour before waking up screaming.

I decided to check his diaper and found his pajamas soaked. So after screaming bloody murder through a diaper/pajama/reswaddle (with both arms in) he's net eating like he's never going to eat again.

Sometimes it take me a while to fall to sleep, but usually motn isn't bad it's the first stretch. I just try and clear my head and snuggle under my blankets.

We're up. Abby got 5.5 hours (on me). Trying to fill that tummy up to hopefully sleep the rest of the night. I always have a hard time falling to sleep. I always get 1-2 hours less than whatever Abby gets (that makes her 2-3 hour stretches the hardest).

Those of you using the halo sack, is LO having a difficult time with the legs/feet part? It is like Abby is too long or acts like she is. Yesterday (Monday) she weighed 10.3lbs at the doc office (10w) and her last length measurement was 22.25in long (at 2 months) she seems to get her feet stuck in the sack as she is kicking them up and it frustrates the hell out of her. Her legs reach the end of the sack as well. I actually bought a halo sleeper in a bigger size to give her more leg room but it straps differently and is still too big for her torso so the extra material makes me worried for her to sleep with near her face. I'm thinking of leaving the sack open and just strapping her arms but will need to find something to keep her legs warm with. Anyone else having similar issues? (If I'm even making any sense!)

  • We're up again. She is a hungry girl tonight! When I picked her up to change her, she snuggled right into me and relaxed, so we just nursed instead of doing a diaper change. I love cuddle time with her, even if it is only 2 hours until the alarm goes off.

@precious72381‌ - I don't use the halo, but I do have a swaddleme and my DD does the same thing with her legs! But I, too, am nervous about the fabric around her face. When I place her in the swaddle, I leave about two inches of space between the blanket and her ears, so her shoulders stick out of the swaddle a bit. Could you try that? Hopefully that makes sense...

  • We're up after a 3 hour stretch. It's the longest stretch we've had in about a week, so I can't complain. Hopefully she goes back down quickly.

I've been so exhausted I usually just crash at night. I have a hard time napping, so I usually only sleep at night.

  • @tahloulah‌ makes sense. I can do that when I use the a&a blankets during the day - she just breaks out of those but the halo sack has arm holes and fits like a tank top with thick sleeves (if that makes sense) so I can't pull the swaddle down any lower otherwise that would work great. Abby is Houdine and breaks out of the other swaddles if not strapped in her straight jacket...I mean halo sack. Then again, she is managing to break free from the halo now too occasionally and once those arms become free, they become missiles smacking herself in the face!

  • I'm up. The state of Hawai'i has a tsunami advisory atm. SO's damn phone kept going off so we've been up. Hawaii is beautiful, but it sucks for being surrounded by water and possible Tsunami threats..

  • We`re up again. LO is fed and changed but wants to stay up and party. I`m too tired to rock him to sleep right now so he`s in his swing. I`m laying down awake listening to him coo and grunt hoping the sandman pays him a visit soon.

@ovenrack, i think cause we get the warnings often enough and nothing happens, people tend to kind of brush it off when a new warning comes. One year there was a guy standing right along the waters when we had a tsunami watch!

  • @precious72381‌ - Ahh, gotcha. I must not have been picturing the halo sleep sack correctly then! DH calls Stella's swaddleme her straight jacket, too! He calls her "straight jacket baby" before bed!

@precious72381 -- we use the halo sleep sack but don't have that problem. I still use the smallest size and Brennon is both taller and weighs more than Abby. He can stretch the bottom out with his feet very well and it doesn't seem to bother him any more than having his arms in. He fusses quite a bit from about 4am-7am. Kicking and grunting and occasionally whimpering. But we discovered that he'll eventually just fall back asleep as long as he's not hungry, wet, cold, or overly agitated.

When she's pushing against the sack, have you tried just placing your hand on her chest and shushing/gently rocking back and forth? That's what we do when he's particularly frustrated.

ETA: Maybe sometime I'll try to do a video so you can see how he fusses.

@peanutmuse she gets red in the face from frustration. I'm wondering if it is still from gas and discomfort and hope that as the medicine works, she won't try to kick her legs up like that anymore. It is hard to explain but I just wiggle the bottom of the sack to get her feet back in the feet spaces but she usually curls them right back up and stretches at the material as she turns red with frustration. Then the screaming begins. Last night, I put her on the mini crib and I slept about 20-30 minutes while she grunted and fought with her feet. Then she started crying so I tried soothing her and put my hand on her belly to rock her a little but she was wide awake and pissed. It seems to be the issue when I lay her flat. She wants to bring her legs up to her body and can't in that position. On me, she can pull her legs up a little but it also doesn't bother her as much to be straight. Again, maybe once her stomach is better and the meds are working to their full potential, she won't want to kick her legs straight or it won't bother her so much.
I attached two pics I took this morning. She was wide awake and wanting her diaper changed so they aren't accurate MOTN pics but you can kinda see what she does that makes her so mad.

  • I'm up now, but not from either of the kids. I had a damn nightmare again and can't fall back to sleep. I wish I could. I'm so tired and exhausted from Soph being sick. On a good note DH is off again tonight.
  • @precious72381 -- that looks exactly like what Brennon does, the difference being that he falls back asleep, though.

Have you considered getting one of those incline pillows for her mini crib? I think that the first step is to see if the meds work, of course, but that might be another option to consider. I was ready to order one myself but then suddenly, his nighttime symptoms improved. Not eating during the night definitely helps with that, though, so we needed to get him to a point where he needed to eat less frequently at night and figure out when it was best to give him the meds. Now we're on a good roll here. If he doesn't eat as much during the times when he needs to be flat on his back, he is less uncomfortable and grunts/whimpers less.
  • @peanutmuse‌ thanks for always sharing ideas! I have put a folded towel under the mattress before and she turns (like hands on a clock) off the elevation. So it didn't work before. Maybe I should try again now that she is on the meds - I feel like I can try everything again since I'm working with a new baby!
I agree that if she eats less during the night, it will help but we are slowly working on sleeping longer. It's a process but already seeing some differences. The gas drops before a feeding seems to help too.

I like the summer brand swaddles. They have a zipper at the bottom so baby stays swaddled during diaper changes

@ovenrack‌ it is quite fascinating, but we've been lucky that no serious tsunami hit our shores. I'm afraid that one day no one will take it seriously. Just like what @cnctf said. That guy in Waikiki was plain stupid.
