Moms: When did your DC start sleeping in the crib?

Right now we are co sleeping and I thought I should start trying her in her crib. I have to go back to work in three weeks. I am thinking I might have a better sleep with her in her own room, but I am nervous about her being in there alone. Am I crazy or what?

  • We put DS in the crib at 6 weeks and he never looked back

  • We moved DS into his crib at 4 weeks and it was the BEST thing we've done.  I didn't realize how much he stirred at night until I moved him out.  The first night he was in his crib, I was nervous but I quickly realized how much better I slept with him in his own room.  DO IT!

  • DS slept in his own room at about 1 week old. We started out with him in our room, but he was such a noisy sleeper that no one was getting good sleep. Everytime he made a peep we were jumping up to make sure he was ok. He hated his crib, so for the first two months he slept in his car seat which we put in the crib. Then at 2 months he started sleeping in the crib.
  • 2 1/2 weeks.  It was tough at first but we are happy now.  We spent the weekend sharing a room with her and she is very noisy, so we are even more happy.  :)

The monitor gives us piece of mind.

  • Last night was her first night in her crib.  She slept wonderfully.  I'm glad we've moved her in there.

  • According to the American Academy of Pediatrics - having your baby sleep in your room up until 6 months of age reduces SIDS risk, so no, you're not crazy.

  • We co sleep and this is the first night of her actually in her bassinet in our room alone...I'm having a tough time right now, but I wish I would've started a bit earlier.  I do enjoy co sleeping though.  I hope to put her in her crib in the nursery by 6 months.

  • we put DS in the crib around 4mos - a couple weeks before i went back to work- b/c i didn't want to try and make the transition when i was working and really needed my sleep.  We ALL slept better with him in there.... and we weren't even cosleeping in the bed- he was in a bedside cosleeper.

we were really sad the first few nights and missed him a lot- but then it was great to have our room back to ourselves.

  • im not one to ask..my guys slept in the bed with me until 6 months! and i still sleep in the nursery on an air mattress ;) im a little attached, haha..

i have made a new years resolution to try to sleep in my bed with my husband..we'll see :)?

  • Like Pamela, E went into his crib at about 6 weeks or so, and it was the BEST decision!

  • Eli has been sleeping in his crib for about a week.  I wanted to wait until he was 4 months, before that he slept in a bassinet up against the bed.

  • We put him in the crib at 3 weeks. He tried sleeping in the bassinet and didn't like it so much. Plus, it is easier to feed him in the nursery chair, change him and put him to sleep with some music on.

I did not realize how many moms will cosleep for several months. I didn't do any research on cosleeping before the baby came, but maybe I should.

  • DS started sleeping in his crib at about 3 weeks. We all slept better that way, especially him.

You're not crazy about him being there alone. Get a good monitor, and that will make you feel better.

If that also doesn't sound like a good idea, if you are able to move his crib, or put up a pack n' play in your room, you can have her sleep in the same room with you -- her own bed, but still close enough to you to feel more comfortable.

    Good luck!

  • My girls have been sleeping in their cribs since we brought them home from the NICU..I was too freaked out I'd roll on them or something to co-sleep....as for putting him in his own crib, I'd do the tr ansition before you go back to work so that you don't have terribly painful days at work due to exhaustion! GL.

I do have to say, we have the Angelcares monitor and that's helped me a TON with them sleeping in their own room.

  • You asked "am i crazy" ..my answer, yes. :)

Bryn was in her crib from DAY ONE.

  • Abby has been in her crib since day one. We've had some issues with it being really big at first, but found that the swaddleme blankets do the trick.
  • DD slept in a PnP in our room until she was about 3 months old.  The Dr said it would be easier the earlier we did it, and we'd all sleep better.  I kept checking on her throughout the night, but after a few days, I realized The Dr. was right!!!
