Pregnant after 35

When does it feel real?? And intro

Hello, I am 36 (will be 37 in June) and I got a BPF last week at 11 dpo.  This will (hopefully) be #1 for us and the first grandchild on my side.  At this point I feel pretty normal so it feels kinda surreal and my first appointment isn't for another month.  So for those of you further along, when did it feel like it was actually happening??

Me: 37
DH: 45
BFP #1 3/19/14  EDD 11/29/14 MMC D&C 4/24/14
BFP #2  12/4/14 Beta #1 218 at 12dpo Beta #2 1055 at 16dpo
Saw heartbeat 12/29.  Please be a rainbow.

  • I am 22w, still waiting for it :) I figure once I feel them move maybe!

  • Congrats!

It can feel more real when m/s kicks in. ;) Also when the baby starts moving... Seeing the U/S, hearing the heart beat. That kind of thing.

But really... It's all rather surreal till you actually have the baby at home in your arms. :) and even then it feels crazy for a while!

  • Congrats! I'm 17 weeks and it still doesn't seem real. The ultrasounds seem like just a picture, not actually something going on in my body. The only time it seems real is when someone addresses me as 'mama' or the mom to be. It takes me a second to realize they're talking about me!

  • Our son is 11 months old and there are days it still doesn't feel real.

I did not get very big with him and he wasn't a big mover and shaker so it just never felt real for me.   People at church (other than the ones who really knew me well) couldn't believe he was ours since I never really showed.

  • Congratulations! I think the reality started to kick in at the first appointment and ultrasound where even though baby is teeny I could see the little heart flickering. Though I'm now due in 10 days and sometimes cannot believe it still!

  • Congrats and welcome!

For me, it started to feel more real once I was showing more obviously (around 16 weeks), but the 20-week ultrasound last week really brought it home. Seeing that little one squirming around, seeing little feet and hands ... as my DH said in my ear, jokingly, "Hey! You've got a person in there!" :)

Enjoy the journey. Wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months.

  • Congrats and welcome! My DS is just under 2 weeks old and sometimes I look at him and am still amazed we have a baby in our house. I honestly never thought I would be a mommy yet here I am. It did start to feel a bit more real once I was able to feel the baby move but I really do think it's different for everyone.

  • For me the first time around it was hearing DD's heart beat. This time, it wasn't really until he started kicking like a little madman. So different with every person and maybe even every pregnancy. :). Congrats and welcome!
  • Congratulations!  I'm 36 y/o and this is my first as well.  It really didn't sink in for me that I'm pregnant until the morning sickness (in my case all day sickness) kicked in at 6 weeks and lasted until 16 weeks.  Now, at almost 26 weeks it still doesn't feel real sometimes.  Then LO will kick me and I'll be like.. "oh yeah.. There's a little person in there." :)

  • DS is 9 days old and it still doesn't feel real. I still can't believe he was the one kicking me all those months and now he is here. It's surreal!

  • I'm at 10.5 weeks and since my stomach hasn't really popped out yet, it doesn't feel real.  Especially because I have two older kids and babies are so far from reality for us at the moment!  I'm sure it'll feel more real once I feel him/her moving around in there!

  • General question for all. When did you first start experiencing s/sx of pregnancy.? What was your first symptom and at what week?

Is it unheard of to have all the prego symptoms opposite of what is considered normal prego s/sx. Like Insomnia rather than sleepiness. Increased energy compared to chromic fatigue? Even medicine having an opposite effect on the body. Benadryl acting like caffeine and caffeine acting like Benadryl. Cause if it's possible, I am mucho prego!

Seriously have no idea what's going on with my body. Maybe all the clomid, follistem, trigger HCG shots and progesterone have me going a little crazy!

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift

May your heart always be joyful
May your song always be sung
And may you stay forever young  "

  • I am entering my third trimester, and I have been feeling the baby move consistently for over two months... having had two miscarriages, I am hesitant to let myself feel like it is real until I am holding a healthy baby. I may not even when I get to hold him/her. I have an active baby that kicks often and with energy, and I still forget sometimes that I am pregnant. I am reminded by all the people that are excited for me. I have just tried to focus on feeding of their enthusiasm to allow myself to enjoy the moment.
  • I am 32 weeks with my first and at times it still feels surreal that I am pregnant! Several moments made an impact on me and made everything finally feel real! The first ultrasound where he was a tiny little pea was amazing and I cried. Seeing him weeks later at my 12 week ultrasound and then my anatomy scan were the best moments. Seeing how much he had grown and seeing him in 3D was amazing. To know everything was okay and he was healthy and growing was so reassuring.

I didn't feel him kick until around 26 weeks. Now I love that feeling and love watching my belly move. It's amazing to know there is a little person on there!!
  • Found out that my baby a is a girl this week (4 weeks after finding out baby b was a boy). That combined with some kicking has made it real for me. Now I just want to meet them!
  • I'm 35 weeks and 3 days, it still does not feel real. My SIL said she didn't feel it was real until after the baby was born and she was taking care of him.

  • Started feeling real about 2 weeks ago. The bump really started forming and I started feeling movement more often. Up until then I didn't feel any different.
