teething - wants a cold nipple

DS is almost 11 months old.  He is teething something fierce, and on day 10 of a nursing strike.  He also went through a 3-day strike about 6 weeks ago.  He very rarely took a bottle before that, but I was pumping anyway during the strike and figured I'd give it a try and he took it.  But he went straight back to the breast no problem in a few days.  I started giving him a bottle this time again thinking it would just be a few days.  I have been giving him cold bottles not thinking much of it, but tonight I had a warm freshly pumped bottle, so I attempted to give him that and he just cried and would not take it.  I have determined that the cold nipple/milk is feeling good and that must be what he likes about the bottle.

Has anyone else been in this situation?  Is it totally weird to try to ice my own nipple and see if he'll nurse?  Is there anything else I can do to make nursing less uncomfortable for him while he's teething?  I have tried giving him a cold teether or washcloth before nursing, but it isn't helping.  I've tried Tylenol and teething tabs.  If I just try to wait it out, will he eventually go back to the breast?  I only have a manual single pump, and I've been pumping 20 oz/day with it!  I can't go on much longer doing that, it's ridiculous.  I am actually thinking about renting a double electric.

I appreciate any suggestions, ladies!

try infant advil-- advil is an anti-inflammatory, so a lot of people like it more than tylenol for teething. try giving it 30-45 minutes in advance of nursing. sure, ice your nipple if you can handle it! or you could try freezing some breastmilk in an ice cube tray and giving your LO one to suck on wrapped in a washcloth.

sorry, that sounds like a major drag!
