What's everyone taking or doing for constipation

My stomach is huge!!! I am taking stool softener but it really isn't working. Even a cup of coffee in the morning doesn't work. Senna always worked when I wasn't pregnant without giving me cramps or anything. It's not on the safe to take list I have. Metamucil just gives me gas really bad and backs me up more.

  • Colace and prune juice are keeping me happy.

  • I chug a glass of prune juice every now and then when things start to back up.
  • Don't laugh. I ate Taco Bell to get me jump started (has to be something beef). Now I eat mini wheats for breakfast every morning and haven't had a problem.

    I am not one to be constipated. I usually go like 4 X a day. Now pregnant, I'm lucky to go 1x a day.

    My Dr had given me samples of several prenatal vitamins. One of them actually has a stool softener in it. I might start taking that one.
  • @MeghanCF‌ Really? I wish I did that much before pregnant. I might as well light some candles and romance myself. I have to set the mood just to go. Lol!

  • I am awaiting my surgeons appt (next Monday) to fix problems that occurred from last pregnancy that resulted in hemi surgery. This is a subject I hate but know so well.

    Drink a minimum of 2 liters water per day.
    Colace 2/x daily. One in am one in pm.
    Try flax seeds in food.
    Miralax.
    Fruit, especially pears and prunes.
    Avocado.
    Pineapple juice. Fig. Beans.
    Do not strain if possible. Use moist wipes to clean.
    And exercise!





                                  
  • Kefir works for me. Homemade or store bought.
  • I haven't had that problem yet... But I take a colace with my prenatals every few days and drink lots and lots of water
  • I had issues with this before pregnancy & regular Dulcolax took care of it.  Now that I can't have that, I switched to Colace, a fiber supplement, & Fiber one cereal.  It is helping, but not enough!

  • Water, water, water! And flax seed meal sprinkled on everything, ha. Also, exercise works really well. I'm going to start a probiotic next week to see if that will clear up any lingering issues, but cultured or fermented foods (kefir, yogurt, kombucha, kimchi, etc) are supposed to work wonders.

  • Don't have it currently, but when I do I like to eat dried prunes and use Colace. Colace is awesome! lol

  • i have had some serious problems with this! not fun.

    i was taking colace. it worke okay. today my dr gave me a prenatal vitamin to try that has a stool softener in it. i'll try anything!
    our family consists of myself, my wonderful husband and my 3 sweet step-kiddos.
    and this little girl!

  • It sounds funny but when you are on the toilet there are some movements and positions with your legs and how you sit that can naturally make you go. I am taking zofran so I understand the issue, this is what I've been doing instead of adding more stuff into my body that I feel is not nessecary
  • I take Citranatal Assure. It's a prescription prenatal vitamin with a stool softener in it.

  • I just bought a big bottle of prune juice for just this reason. Fun! Pineapple and hot water with lemon also help.

  • I have started miralax and colace because I am dying right now!! I never had any constipation issues with my first 2 pregnancies!

  • **knock on wood** haven't had any problems with this one but had it sooo bad with my dd I would literally cry on the toilet. Few things that helped.. Colace, Apple juice and veggies with fiber like carrots!

  • I drink Pink Lemonade Metamucil every day. I have had issues since becoming a teacher because we aren't able to take bathroom breaks when we need to..

  • I was constipated from week 4-8 on/off and now finally have become more regular and less bloated. My doctor told me to take magnesium and it has seemed to help alot. I started off by taking 2 a day and have up'd it to 4 a day now and feel so much better.  Bloat + constipation, is miserable.

  • You know what doesn't help? I have a kid laying on the floor infront of the bathroom door. For any of you first time moms, enjoy going to the bathroom alone now cuz you will never have that luxury again.

    Can constipation make you nauseous???  I literally had to run out of my classroom yesterday, thank God I had an aid in my room for that class, because I thought I was gonna puke.  but I just had to go to the bathroom, like a lot.  Then I felt good as new.

  • I actually took dulcolax last night. I finally broke down and called my dr yesterday. I was told that this early it is ok to take laxatives if absolutely necessary and it was. I was miserable and I think it was making the nausea much worse.

    You know what? I've had to throw up in the garbage twice while on the toilet. I do think one attributed to the other.
