Help with bottle weaning please!

This past weekend i tried cutting down the bottles to just 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening with the rest being sippy cup. She only drank about 3oz or less from the sippy each day. Then i tried cold turkey yesterday which many of my friends recommended. Again, she had very little and now I feel anxious that shes not getting enough milk. I know its only been a day, and im making sure she gets yogurt and cheese etc but I just feel like im depriving her when she so politely asks for her baba before bed. :(

Im not sure how long it will take before she accepts the cup, I know she wont drink from the bottle forever, but im just feeling discouraged and its stressing me out! She drinks water from the sippy fine, its just milk.

Someone tell me this will work out sooner rather than later! Or do i just forget it and try again when she might be more ready (although i feel like the longer i wait the worse it will get)

  • DS will not drink milk out of anything other than his bottle.  Right now, I think it's okay for him to have milk in the bottle, we give him watered down juice and water in a sippy/straw cup and he uses it well.

We have an appt with the pedi on the 10th, I'll ask her then but I'm okay with him using bottle for milk as long as he uses sippy/straw for everything else

  • I agree with sticking with it. She will soon forget about the bottle and accept the cup. A few days or a week with only a few oz of milk shouldn't hurt.

Consistency is key IMO. Make a plan and stick with it. Stay strong Mama!

  • She will be ok a few days without the milk.

When B was sick I was super concerned because she wanted nothing to do with milk. I brought it up to the doc and she said it was probably because she was so congested and the milk was thickening it and making her uncomfortable, which made sense. But I asked her if her not having milk for a few days would harm her. She said realistically she could go a few weeks without milk and start back up again and be fine. So id stick with it if I were you. You can do it! :)

  • Also, have you tried straw cups? B wasn't crazy about sippies at all, but went right for the cups with straws.

  • Our pedi advised there is no milk minimum to reach each day, just a limit. Offer her other forms of calcium like yogurt and cheese, and you could add vitamin d drops if you don't already use them. We weaned at a year, but she was the same way, drank water just fine out of a sippy but give her milk and she wanted nothing to do with it. After a week or a little longer of just continually offering the sippy of milk and no longer giving her any bottles she started drinking her milk just fine.
