Freaking out

I am pretty much freaking out. I went to change Cady earlier (clothes and diaper) and as soon as her diaper was off her eyes got huge and her arms got stiff and she took a huge breath and screamed. The thing that truly got me was the look on her face. She looked terrified or like she was in tremendous pain. I picked her up and after a few minutes she calmed down. Well that was a few hours ago and I had let it go, calling it a freak baby thing.

Then she does it again. I was changing her (clothes and diaper again) when her arms go out in front of her like she's reaching for me (obviously I know she is too young for that) and her eyes get big and she looks terrified again and she just screams. It isn't her normal cry or an angry cry. She isn't a gassy baby and she hasn't had anything different today than normal. She is ok after a few minutes of being comforted. She laid on her back on her play mat for a good ten minutes between these two instances as well. I can't figure this out. She goes for her two month check up in the morning so we will be asking the doctor then.

Any ideas or suggestions? Please?

Re: Freaking out

  • same as above. I do wonder why your LO did it all of a sudden though and it seems from your post that she doesn't normally. H has been doing this since she was born. She always looks scared, stiff arms out....panicked like she is going to fall. If she is sleepy or not feeling that great she does it way more extreme.

Has your LO never done this even a little bit? Maybe its worse today because she's more tired or having a fussy day.

  • Thank you both for your quick responses! She will do the jumping startled thing but she has never done it to this extreme.

I feel a ton better! Thank you!

  • Mine does this sometimes too. I think she startles when her skin touches the cold plastic changing pad.
  • Is she cold?

  • DS does this too. Almost like he had a dream that he was falling. I think it's pretty normal!

  • @ChuggingWater‌ I doubt she was cold enough to warrant this extreme reaction. It was in the 80s here yesterday and was cool but not at all cold in the house.

She did it a total of 3 times and seemed fine this morning. The doctor did say that she is colicky due to this and other factors. He said most likely it was a stomach cramp type of thing.
It was scary for me but as long as she is ok I don't really care about anything else.

Thank you all for your support! J14 is the best!
