My baby is 6 weeks old today. I am concerned that he is sleeping too much. Probably just an overly worried mother!
He usually falls asleep after every feeding. He eats every 2 1/2 to 3 hours and eats about 4 ounces. He almost always falls asleep after eating and sleeps for a couple of hours. During the day, he sleeps very soundly. However at night, he seems to be restless. After we put him down, he will grunt and moan for a while then drift off. After a few minutes, he will start grunting, moaning and moving around. Is there anything I can do to help him sleep more soundly at night? We usually have a little more trouble getting him to sleep after eating at night also.
Does it seem that he is sleeping too much during the day? When he is awake, I interact with him to keep him awake as long as I can but eventually he gets tired and goes to sleep.
Re: Sleep Habits
He's still a newborn, they do what they do and they're sleep habits are downright weird sometimes.
If it's alert while awake (not lethargic) I wouldn't be worried. They do a lot of growing while asleep.
My 6 week old sleeps a lot of the day away and does what you describe at night. It was weird at first because my DD was an awake all day, sleep all night sort of kid from birth.
I do gas drops and gripe water at night with some white noise. Babies are noisy sleepers. If he's not all out crying, I leave him to work through it for the most part.
For the original poster, are you keeping him/her more upright during the day? I know my little kiddo had trouble with reflux and thus would be grunting and moaning all thru the night when he would be laying down flat. During the day, he was in the swing/bouncer...which has a little on an incline, and he would grunt and moan less. So...we lifted one side of the mattress by several degrees and he sleeps much better now.
