I hate people

Some asshole apparently cloned my debit card and spent like $1000 in a day.  I still have my debit card and they said all these transactions had a card swiped.  I am so upset.  And the charges are all still pending, so the bank said we have to try and contact the vendors and see if they will release the funds.  If not, we have to wait until they hit and then dispute them.  Now my house payment might bounce.  Why are people such assholes?

    I'm sorry - that does suck and people are assholes. 

    Just a side note, but make sure you file a police report about this too.

    Yes, definitely call the police asap to file a report. I had a credit card stolen in college once and it was such a mess. I had to file a report and luckily it all got squared away pretty quickly. Ugh, so annoying!!

    How do I file a police report if I don't know who did it?  Sorry, I have never filed one before!

    When it happened to me, I just called the local police department, let them know the situation, and filed a report. I think the bank would probably encourage you to do this too. For me, it was a Discover card that was stolen and they are the ones who advised me to file the police report.

    I had $600 racked up on my debit bank card.  Called the bank and told them that those charges weren't mine.  They were at super markets hundreds of miles away.  I had to wait 2 weeks in which I had to transfer funds from savings into my checking to cover any pending charges that were actually real.  It was a PAIN!  Eventually the bank refunded me the money and I got a new debit card.  Just like you I still had my card in my possession just some how the crook cloned it. 

    Another time my Capital One Card had a fraudulent charge on it and the DAMN card company had the audacity to tell me to contact the vendor to figure out the info behind the charge before I could dispute it.  The vendor was located in Canada.  After I did that I cancelled my card.  What am I using their services for if I have to do my own research on fraudulent charges. 

    I'm really sorry you have to go through this,  I hope that you get the resolution you need quickly and the money back in your account.

    Bummer! It's so much worse when it's your debit card. Last time this happened to me my husband called like, "Um, did you spend $56 at Burger King?"

    Ugh fraudulent charges are the worst. Someone stole my card once and bought advertising in random newspapers.... I'm still curious as to what they were advertising...

    How sad is that? I mean ... steal a credit card and BK is the first place you hit? I don't even know how you spend $56 at BK.

    That sucks!  I am sorry.

    I hate people, too, but for different reasons.

    And Burger King is gross. The only thing I like is their pie.

    We called some of the vendors and two are going to try and pull camera images.  I really hope they can because you bet I will try to press charges if there is any way that I can!

    Now I am wondering if multiple people have my card number somehow.  One of the vendors told me the times of the transactions were 4:58, 5:06, and 5:15, but another charge happened in there at a different place at 5:05.  He gave me a description of the two girls though.

    Sorry this happened.  Filing a police report is probably easier than you think.  I got pick pocketed once and the whole process only took 20 minutes.  The important thing is having that documentation, and I would do it today.

    Sucks when this happens. It happened to me 3 times when my COA letter to the bank got lost in the mail. They got my actual account details so I had to open a new one.

    You'll get the money back, but they might just make you wait a little while. Some places have fraud squads who refund quickly then investigate. That's what my bank did. I hope yours can do the same!

    They always take money from people who can't afford it.

    That sucks.  Definitely call your local PD and file a police report that you can then give to the bank.

    The city you live in. They will be the ones responsible for making sure it gets to the cities where the transactions occured.

    I hate this. Has happened to me 3 times now. Twice on my bank card and once on my MasterCard. Luckily the bank cards they didn't spend much, just a few hundred both times. But the banks have all been pretty good about reimbursing when it happened, and within days. The credit card took a bit longer, but it was no hassle at all.

    It seems like this has been happening a lot lately. Happened to me through a skimmer in a gas pump and I was never able to get my money back. The atm just swallowed and never deposited our money on Saturday so now we have to wait for a claim to go through before we can get our money back. Not to mention a lot of friends have been having cc fraud. So so sorry you have to deal with this! I don't understand how people can do this to other people.i hope you get all your money back asap
