Mysterious behaviors

Does your LO do something repeatedly that baffles you? DS does something while I'm soothing him to sleep that I can't put my finger on. It resembles a cross between rooting towards my armpit and vigorous nestling. He digs his head in and shakes it back and forth like he's trying to create a feeling but gets frustrated at the same time. He used to sleep in the RnP so I wonder if he's seeking that sensation on his cheeks. I've tried to replicate the feeling with my hand, a light blanket, and a lovie and sometimes I nail it and it's like I hit the off switch, he falls asleep immediately but other times he gets agitated and frustrated.

Does your LO ever repeat any strange movements/behaviors you've witnessed and if you have any thoughts on my LO, I'd love to hear them!

  • Abby does that, like tries digging her face into my chest and shakes it back and forth.  It seems like she is looking for a nipple.

Although not very strange, she lifts her head while on my chest and I guess tires out, and her head slams onto my chest. Guess it hurts me more then it hurts her!

She also smiles and silently laughs while starring at the wall.

  • Sylvia does the head rubbing thing as well. I think it associated with tiredness. She'll move her head from side to side sometimes while laying on her back, but especially at bedtime. She often does it when she is lightly sleeping, just a few times, before settling. I think it is responsible for balding on the back of her head. But she also does it when I'm holding her on my shoulder trying to get her to sleep and when in the Moby. She does the head bobbing in the Moby too. It is similar to her rooting behavior when laid back nursing (which we haven't done for a while now). But she'll also rub her face into the activity mat during tummy time.
  • Wyatt does the same thing and isn't satisfied until he starts sucking on my arm or my collar bone. It hurts when he slams into my chin or chest. He likes to scrunch up into a ball too.
