RNP versus Bouncer etc. - STMs

So I am a FTM and have been gifted a bouncer (plus I bought one used super early in my pregnancy,) a RNP, and we are using a pack and play for DD to sleep in while she is in our room. My question is, do I need the bouncer and the RNP or would you recommend a swing or a mommaroo instead of the bouncer? I just don't want to have one of everything and go totally overboard with unnecessary baby gear...TIA.

  • Baby needs them ALL!

  • A bouncer, a RNP and a PNP have three different uses.

I'd ditch the second bouncer and get a swing.

  • We had a bouncer, swing and RNP. Bouncer got no use at all, swing minimal, RNP couldn't live without.

  • I found the swing, bouncer, RnP and PnP all necessary with DD. I mean, they aren't NEED needs, but they sure were nice to have those first few months!

My thoughts exactly. Tho some babies don't care for swings, so I wouldn't get an outrageously expensive one.

We only had a bouncer with DD and she loved it. We didn't have a need for a rnp. BUT I've heard several people on here say the rnp was a lifesaver. So I figure if you have one of each keep them!

  • RNP! The rnp folds up, the bouncer won't. The rnp slides easily from room to room so as not to wake the baby, bouncer will not. Rnp can be used for night time sleep... bouncer seems too low to the ground/upright.

  • I used the rnp throughout the day and sometimes at night, whereas our bouncer didn't see nearly as much use. I am sure it depends on the baby, but the height and angle of the rnp made it easier for us to use, and harder for baby to shift/ wiggle around.

  • It really seems like each could fill a different "need," and apparently my baby will need a variety of places to park his little butt because I acquired one of each. I pray my baby likes the swing cause my best friend just dropped $160 on the FP Snug-a-Monkey for me, god bless her.

  • I didn't have a RNP, but we did use our bouncer.  I used it a lot because it is so portable.  I would take it in the bathroom when I showered if LO wasn't napping, or set it in the kitchen while making dinner so LO was always close by.  Our swing was too big to move around the house.  I also traveled with the bouncer, so I would recommend it.

  • We probably used the bouncer the least of the 4 (PNP, bouncer, swing, RNP). But as PP mentioned, that's what I brought into the bathroom with me while I took a shower so for that it was great!

We have a small condo so we only got a swing... no bouncer or RNP.
I'm a FTM as well, so I have yet to tell if it will work.

My concern was mainly my cat.  She loves to investigate and will lay in/sit on/jump on anything she finds interesting - I thought a swing might discourage her from jumping in there with the baby.

You might want something portable to plop the baby in when you shower/cook/need two hands.

  • FTM but we have a RNP for our bedroom and swing for living room. We decided against a PNP until we actually have plans to travel. We registered for a bouncer even though i have pretty much decided we don't need it but someone bought it for us this week. i don't anticipate getting a ton of use out of it though.

  • It seems to depend on the baby too. DD hated her bouncer and loved her swing and RNP. I used to PNP some but she preferred the RNP. I still have my bouncer for this baby in case her prefers that. If you have them all I'd keep them and see what your baby likes.

  • I'm a FTM but have been told by lots of STM that a rnp is kind of a must have. I got one because I wanted dd to be close to me at night in bed and it's so light and portable. You can bring with you anywhere

    It's a BOY

  • I didn't have a RNP with my first, and was fine without. He also didn't care for the swing, so the bouncer got a TON of use. We got a RNP with our second and it was a lifesaver. He also liked the swing, bouncer we only used a little for him. I think it really depends on the baby!

I would keep the two you already have and then get a swing later if your baby doesn't seem to like one or both of them. Maybe a friend has a swing you could try with your baby before you buy one? Just means waiting until after baby arrives.

  • When you are talking about the RNP, which one do you mean?  This one:

  • Definitely depends on the baby. My ds hated his swing. He loved the bouncer. When he was born the rnp was brand new and I was hesitant to spend so much on it. A lot of friends have since had them and loved them. Babies slept in them constantly.....and then when they outgrew them they hated being flat on back in crib. I don't want to add any sleep issues so I'm not going to use it and have to wean child from it. Anyway. If you already have it keep it. I also live in a 2 story house so it's nice to have different things on different levels of the house.

  • My son would only sleep in the rnp. Best money I ever spent.
  • I also live in a small place, I got a glider, it is sorta a swing and a bouncy in one and is small enough that it is portable. I am hoping she loves it and I can get away with just the one
  • STM. We didn't think we needed the RNP when LO was born. They had just came out. We had a swing and snug a bunny bouncer (just a vibrating seat). Well when he was 6 weeks old MIL had ordered us the RNP because he had reflux and sleep issues. Thank goodness! Didn't cure it by all means but certainly helped. In fact DS was part time in an in home daycare and we took it to her house every day he went as it was the only thing he would sleep in!

This. we used all 4 things for various purposes.
