Do you wake a sleeping baby?

I wake my son up after he's been napping for 3 hours and I have to wake him almost every single day. Do you let your LOs nap longer than this? Unfortunately I don't have this problem in the morning, he's always up between 6 and 6:30.

Re: Do you wake a sleeping baby?

  • A 3 hour nap?!  I am so jealous.  DS naps for an hour and 15 min.  I would love even a 2 hour nap!  How late is the nap going?  If it was interfering with bedtime, I would wake him.  What time does he go to bed?!

  • We do wake her at 7:00 every day.  She would sleep until 7:30 on the weekends if we let her, but it ruins her naps.  I can't seem to find the right nap time if she sleeps until 7:30, so I just get her up at 7:00 like on a weekday!

For naps - never!  I let her naps as long as she wants.  A couple of times I have woken her from a 4-hour nap because I was concerned something might be wrong, and sure enough, both times she got very sick that evening and went to bed early.

His nap starts at 11:30 and I wake him at 2:30 almost every day, I have no idea how long he would go if I let him. He goes to bed at 7:30 and sleeps until 6 or 6:30 in the morning. He's always been an awesome napper, not so much an awesome night time sleeper.

  • My son used to nap that long.  He always needed it though and we could tell when he didn't anymore because going to bed started to be a struggle (but that wasn't until 3-3.5 y/o).  Unless we had an appointment or something to go to I never woke him...the beast that appeared when awoken non-naturally was not worth it :-)

My son is the opposite. When I wake him up he is super happy, he smiles right away and says "Hi!" in the most adorable way possible. Anytime he wakes up on his own, for nap or in the morning, it's immediate screaming and a super crabby 15 minutes of wake up time.

  • When she was taking 2 naps, we would wake her from the morning one so that she would take an afternoon one. Now we don't wake from her one nap, but she usually wakes after about 2 hours on her own.

  • Unless there is something we have to go to, I do not wake up Albert.

He had been sleeping for two hours every day 12pm to 2pm.  This last week, though, he started sleeping 3-3.5 hours at nap time (11:30am to 3:00pm).  I think he's going through a growth spurt.

99% of the time, we let DS sleep. There have been a few times that his weekend nap has gone until after 4pm. In those few cases, we'll open his door which gets him up quicker. But he frequently takes naps longer than 3 hours on the weekend....we take advantage of every second! Long naps have never affected bedtime.

  • Nope Nope Nope.
  • Usually no, unless it is later in the day. I had to wake him this morning, due to a drs appt.

So, to answer your question, no I do not usually wake my son.

  • Sometimes, if he naps past 5. He is usually a happy camper when I wake him. Doesn't happen too often that he sleeps past 2 hrs nowadays though :( boo

  • I have to wake DD up in the morning during the week because she has to be up by 5:45 to have breakfast and get ready before leaving at 6:20.

For naps while she's home and in the mornings on the weekend we just let her sleep.

We only wake when we have to...and she takes long naps

  • Wow just writing to say I wish I had your problem! DD takes one 30-45 minute nap, however a 2 hour nap at daycare. Here's hope that the next child can nap like yours.
