I'm an idiot because I forgot bottles to pump into at work.

I'm a genius because I remembered I had some storage bags stashed in my desk and managed to Macgyver a solution using nothing more than rubber bands. Eh, eh! Brilliant, right!?

But seriously, forgetting bottles was really, really dumb.

Brilliant! One day, I forgot all of my washable pump parts on the drying rack at home. I work a good 45 minutes away. I had to go to BRU and buy a whole new set, which I now keep in my office just in case. An expensive lesson!

I triple check my double checks each time I go to work. I work in hospitality, and I only have time for about a ten minute session during 8 hours. If I forget anything, I'd have to walk out and probably get fired, ha. It sucksssssssssssss!

I've had to use paper cups before. I put plastic wrap over it so it wouldn't spill but it was nervewracking lol. I didn't even realize you could screw bottles on until month 3 or so lol. It was a magical moment. Before that I pumped straight into the bag. Rubber bands are a genius idea. I used to just hold then up.

I think she got it second hand too. Regardless, I would have gotten my own bottles. Idk what they come with, but I bought glass bottles because I prefer them and I know she used plastic. So not a big deal lol. I only pump a couple times a week so I didn't put that much thought into it. I just froze my extra milk in the beginning in the bags anyway so it was easy to just pump into them.

Well, I suppose it just sounds really silly. I was hoping you were joking and weren't really that clueless lol..

Breast pumping wasn't something I really educated myself on and I've never had someone pump in front of me. I mean you put boob in cone, turn pump on. I figured out how to assemble it so it works at least lol. I figured some sort of bottle attached but wasn't sure if it was only that brand. Eventually I just tried it and it fit. But I do save cleaning a bottle by pumping straight into the bag if I'm freezing it. So there.

Certain brands are okay due to a "closed system" where the parts that milk touch are all replaceable.

Mine is a closed system. So you buy new flanges and valves and whatnot but the pump is used. No milk cross contamination or anything.

I do the "pump straight into bags" thing every day. But I have always used scotch tape to hold the bags on--never thought about rubber bands! May have to experiment today

I can't imagine the scotch tape holding up the bags.. I imagine they'd fall with the weight of the milk?

Never heard this before. When I had dd1 it was "never ever share even with a closed system." That wasn't THAT long ago.

That's bizarre to me. The only thing not new is the actual pump. Which doesn't get anywhere close to milk. It just pumps lol. The tubing doesn't even touch milk.
