Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

convertible car seat rookie!

so we have the Safety 1st convertible car seat and I am so excited to put it in the car tonight.... here is my question- my DD is 22lbs and almost 30inches long.. we should still put it rear facing correct? DH of course threw out the manual.

We have a Britax we use for the babysitter and the instructions for that say you can put it forward facing for babies 1 yr old and/or 22lbs.

Can anyone offer insight? Thanks!! :)

  • @Nana_Osaki06‌ is a tech...
Or go to the facebook group car seats for the Littles. Your LO needs to stay rear facing until at least 2, or until they reach the maximum limits for their seat. You absolutely must read the manual to know how do car for and install properly. If you go to the companies website they should have a manual for you to read.

  • Rear facing is much safer. Even if you can use it forward facing doesn't mean it's the best option. And you can likely get the manual on line. You will need it to ensure you are installing safely and correctly. It isn't ever intuitive to install a car seat!
  • ok cool. I am going to look up the manual tonight. thanks ladies :)
  • Also, most states have proper use laws. Which means that your supposed to use it as per the manufacturers suggestion. Most (if not all) manufacturers state in the manual to use until 2 years. I know for my children in our cars we are still RFing. My son is 30lbs, 31" and 15 months and he still has years to go in his seat for RFing. My daughter is 34lbs, 37" and 3.5 years and still has another year or so in her seat. It's what is the most safe for our children. Your more likely to get into a car crash over just about anything else. This is a big deal. Picking out a seat that allows the longest RFing time is best (usually why I don't recommend Britax seats).

Also, if your doctor says you can FF at 1 year they should be informed. They should be following AAP recommendations. It's their job. Just like how OB's have to follow ACOG. So, if they are not giving out what the AAP recommends or trying to inform of them is a big red flag.

  • As PPs have said, new rules say rear facing until 2. You can also probably google the manual if you need it. :-)
