Breastfeeding

Am I doing this right?

So I'm determined to breastfeed dd but not sure I'm doing what I'm suppose to lol. Dd is 3 weeks and has gained all her hospital weight and all but she sleeps like non stop! She nurses but doesn't empty the entire breast and doesn't switch sides bc she's out cold, so I was pumping every time she was sleeping and my breasts needed to be emptied. Saturday&sunday were crazy busy and I didn't get to pump at all, she slept a crazy amount and by Sunday night my breasts weren't engorged and I only pumped 2ounces in 20 min. She was fussy and seemed hungry so I fed her a freezer bag with 4ounces. She sucked it right down, but now I'm feeling like I'm not making as much as she needs. I ate my lactation cookies and drank my tea and feel like I'm going good again but my breasts are soft.. Is that normal? Do your boobs not stay rock hard? Is that just a in the beginning kind of thing? I feel like she's not going to get enough and the pediatrician is going to tell me to formula feed :/ like my last child...

  • Try massaging your breasts prior to expressing and place a warm wash cloth on them or run them under warm water, it can help get all the milk out. You have to either pump or nurse every 3-4 hours. That's the way to establish a supply. I don't think I would
wake the baby but definitely get a pump session in during the feeding she skips.
